WORD PROCESSOR

Concept of Word processor

Word processing is software used to describe using a computer to create, edit and print
documents. Of all the computer applications, word processing is the most common. To perform
word processing, you need a computer, a special program called a word processor, and a printer.
A word processor enables you to create a document, stores it electronically on a disk, display it
on a screen, modify it by entering commands and character from the keyboard, and print it on
printer. A word processor is a type of application software used for composing, editing,
formatting, and printing documents. Word processors have variety of uses and application within
the business environment, at home and in educational context. Normally word processor allows
us to change the size and appearance of the text, paragraph, paper size and margins, add graphics
to the documents and many more. It allows spelling checking, thesaurus and grammar support.
The word processor allows us to type, edit, update and save documents. The already saved
documents can be opened later for editing/updating or viewing/printing.

Word processing software is used to manipulate a text documents, such as a resume or a report.
You typically enter text by typing, and the software provides tools for copinr, deleting and
various type of formatting.

SOME OF THE FUNCTION OF WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE INCLUDES:-

 Creating, editing, saving and printing documents.

 Coping, pasting, moving and deleting text within documents.
 Formatting text, such as font type, bolding, underlining or italicizing.
 Creating and editing tables.
 Inserting elements from other software, such as illustrations or photograph.
 Correcting spelling and grammar.

TYPES OF WORD PROCESSING PROGRAMS

Concept and use of spread sheet

A spreadsheet is a software application that enables a user to save, sort and manage
data in an arranged form of rows and columns. A spreadsheet stores data in a tabular
format as an electronic document. An electronic spreadsheet is based on and is similar to
the paper-based accounting worksheet. A spreadsheet may also be called a worksheet.
A spreadsheet is primarily designed to provide a digital form of the paper-based
worksheet. Spreadsheets work through spreadsheet application software. The rows and
columns within the spreadsheet contain cells that are filled with data to create unique
operations. Spreadsheet application (sometimes referred to simply as spreadsheet) is
computer programs that let you create and manipulates spreadsheets electrically.
A typical spreadsheet program can have multiple functions such as:
• Numerous rows and columns for data and values storage
• Support for mathematical formulae and calculation
• Data sorting and analysis
• Multiple worksheet and their interlinking]
• Integration and visualization of data in the form of graphs and charts
• A spreadsheet comprises of a grid of ‘cell’ arranged in rows and columns and
information can be inserted into each cell.
• Each cell contains text, numbers and formulas.
• Spreadsheet can be useful for home budgeting or accounting and they make it
easy to display information.
Uses of spreadsheet
• Accounting
• Teachers
• Engineer
• Sales people
• Scientist
• Supermarkets
Types of spreadsheet
• Two-dimensional Spreadsheet
• Three-dimensional Spreadsheet

Concept of presentation

Presentation is the practice of showing and explaining the content of a topic to an

audience or learner. A presentation is supposed to help both the speaker with an easier
access to his ideas and the participants with visual information which complements the
task. There are many different types of presentation including professional (work-
related), education, and entertainment and for general communication. Presentation
program can either supplement or replace the use of older visual aid technology, such as
pamphlets, movies and other objects. Microsoft PowerPoint is a popular presentation tool
(software).
Examples of presentation program
• WPS Office
• SlideBean
• SlideDog
• Haiku Deck
• Powtoon
• Apple keynote

Desktop
The desktop is the primary user interface of a computer. When you boot up your computer, the
desktop is displayed once the startup process is complete. It includes trhe desktop background (or
wallpaper) and icons oor files and folders you may have save to the desktop. In windows, the desktop
includes a taskbar, which is located at the bottom of the screen by default. In Mac OS X, the desktop
includes a menu bar at the top of the screen and the Dock at the bottom.
Icons
An icon is a small graphical representation of a program or files that, when click on, will be run or
open. Icons are used with Graphic User Interface (GUI) Operating systems, such as Microsoft windows
and apple Mac OS, to help quickly identify a type of file or program associated with the icon.
Control Panel
The control panel is a feature of the windows operating system that allows the user to modify system
setting and controls. It includes several small applications, or controls panels, that can be used to view
and change hardware and software setting. Some examples of hardware controls panels are Display,
keyboard, and Mouse settings. Software control panels include Date and Time, Power Options, Fonts, and
Administrative Tools.

Hyper Text makeup language
HTML (Hyper Text Makeup Language) is a tag based scripting language, interpreted by browser. The
Hyperlink is a nonlinear text. It has a capacity to open a door of other related information or files. When it
is clicked, something new must appeared. Tags and attributes of HTML documents tell browsers how to
display documents.

Skeleton of HTML
The<HTML> and </HTML> tags are backbone or main platform on which other tags are located. All
the elements of HTML is written within <HTML> and </HTML>.We place following tags:

The CLEAR attribute can take values "none", "right", "left", or
"all" and is deprecated, but in fact still very useful. The best
way to understand it is to try a few tests.

<CENTER></CENTER> Content is centred on page (can include paragraphs etc). Note

American spelling.

<EM></EM> Emphasis: text usually displayed in italics

Used to define characteristics of font, according to attributes

e.g. SIZE, COLOR, FACE. SIZE sets size, 1-7 e.g. SIZE="5".
COLOR sets colour of text e.g. <FONT COLOR="#FF0000">
