A. Answer the following questions in not less than five sentences paragraph each.
1. Are societies in the world becoming more similar (homogenous) or more different (heterogeneous)?
As for my own impression, the societies in the world have become homogenous. With the series of legalization
of issues that the society hardly can approve before, I believe it is one of the manifestation of the society’s
metamorphosis from a diverse society to a homogenous society sharing the same perspectives. The world right
now, specifically the society in a smaller perspective have change greatly as far as societal perspectives is
concern. A lot of the societal perspective have changed. This is evidently shown in the prevalence of
legalization of abortion, divorce, same sex marriage and the likes. With these issues which have been put to
silence years ago due to the differences of the societal perspectives and now gaining the society’s approval with
the series of legalizations is enough to say the societies in the world become homogenous.

2. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of homogenization of culture? How about
heterogenization?
There are several advantages of cultural homogenization. One of these is that it broadens the range of cultural
experiences that the people can have and enjoy aspects of many other cultures. Homogenization also shows that
people trust one another easily due to their basic understanding of one’s belief and they tend to be more
charitable to one another. Through homogenization, people can also obtain easier and better quality of
communication. There are also disadvantages of homogenization and one is that it destroys unique cultural
practices in various countries and thereby reducing the amount of cultural diversity that exists in the world. It
can also result in the loss of individual culture and religion and less diversity of ideas.
Cultural heterogeneity produces different cultures. Cultural diversity is achieved and many different cultures
will be accepted by other societies. It can also result in enhanced cultural diversity in different societies and
increased learning opportunities due to different ideas shared by different people. However, heterogeneity can
result in different fights between people with different beliefs and less global cooperation due to different
understanding of the world, different goals and different ways of achieving these. It can also lead to low level of
predictability of one’s action.

3. Which of the aforementioned views on the history of globalization you find most appealing? Why?
The historical origins of globalization are the subject of ongoing debate. Though many scholars situate the
origins of globalization in the modern era, others regard it as a phenomenon with a long history. Some authors
have argued that stretching the beginning of globalization far back in time renders the concept wholly
inoperative and useless for political analysis. Perhaps the extreme proponent of a deep historical origin for
globalization was Andre Gunder Frank, an economist associated with dependency theory. Frank argued that a
form of globalization has been in existence since the rise of trade links between Sumer and the Indus Valley
Civilization in the third millennium BC. Critics of this idea contend that it rests upon an over-broad definition
of globalization.

Opinion: Post-pandemic world needs better globalization, not less
Xinhua

The upsides of globalization are unmistakable, and will not be wiped out by a single global crisis. Instead of
trying to turn inward and break away from each other, countries should come even closer and make
globalization work better for everyone. Globalization is now far more than just economic integration and also
the global village is highly interconnected. It subscribe to a particular definition discussed in the on the online

International trade has cost Americans millions of jobs. Investing in communities might offset those
losses

Globalization, the international trade in goods and services with minimal barriers between countries, may seem
inevitable as the world’s economies become more interdependent. Properly regulated, globalization can be a
powerful force for social good. For wealthy nations, globalization can mean less expensive goods, additional
spending and a higher standard of living. For those who live and work in poorer nations, globalization can lead
to greater prosperity with the power to reduce child labor, increase literacy and enhance the economic and social
standing of women. But not everyone gains from globalization. . It subscribe to a particular definition discussed

In the post-pandemic world, we may see a relative concentration of production to specific locations and nation
states gaining more power as opposed to multinational organizations and corporations. According to famous
sociologist Anthony Giddens, this is actually the defining characteristic of globalization in the first place, that it
“links distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away
and vice versa.” Indeed, several months after Chinese authorities failed to properly handle a local health
emergency in a peripheral part of China, the entire global economy is fast moving towards a major recession,
leaving a steadily growing number of people unemployed across the globe, from Latin America to the Middle
East. It subscribe to a particular definition discussed in the on the online class and also it is broad and exclusive.
