Slab Design As Per IS-456-2000 - Limitations & INFO

This document summarizes the design of reinforced concrete slabs according to IS-456-2000. It provides information on limitations of the program, assumptions made, and code requirements for durability, crack width, cement content, maximum water-cement ratio, minimum concrete grade, and clear cover based on exposure conditions. Tables are included specifying minimum slab thickness and clear cover requirements for different fire resistance ratings.

DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB AS PER IS-456-2000.

 PROGRAM INFO / LIMITATIONS.

This program designs reinforced concrete slab as per the given loading .

Redistribution of support moments are not carried out as given in Clause 24.4.1.
f y ( characteristic strength of
reinforcement )   = 415 N / mm2 .
In case the nominal cover exceeds 35 mm, additional measures such as application of fire
resistant finishes , false ceiling, & sacrificial steel in tensile zone  should be adopted to give
   protection against spalling.
Values of bending coefficients for LY / LX > 2 are taken as same for
those of LY / LX = 2 .
Width of beam supporting the slab is assumed as 200 mm, for checking
shear stress.
Some salient features of CODE regarding durability are as under. The cement content, maximum
w/c ratio, and concrete grade corresponds to normal 20 mm size aggregate.
