Design of Shear Wall: 1 Si English

1. The wall thickness of 200 mm is satisfactory to resist the required shear force of 1500 kN. 2. The shear capacity of the wall is calculated to be 600563.735 N. 3. Shear reinforcement is needed since the required shear force exceeds the shear capacity. 4. Horizontal reinforcement with an area of 1.17 mm2/mm at a spacing of 192 mm is designed to resist the shear. Vertical reinforcement at 259 mm spacing is also designed. 5. Vertical flexural reinforcement of 0.0188772 density and bar size of 30 mm at 153 mm spacing is designed to resist the bending moment of 6300 kN-m.

Design of Shear Wall
<Program Created by: Engr. Jeremy E. Caballes>

Units = SI 1 SI
f`c = 20.7 MPa English
f`y = 413.7 MPa
Bar diameter, db:
Vertical center = 12 mm OK!
Vertical end = 30 mm OK!
Horizontal = 12 mm OK!
Allow. sclear =
50 mm
Layer = double 2 single
Concrete cover = 75 mm double
Axial tension, Nu = 0 kN or 0 N
Wall thickness, h = 200 mm OK!

Vu = 1500 kN

hw = 4.2 m ###
H = 4.2 m

ℓw = 3 m ###

1. Is the wall thickness satisfactory?

Vu = 5/6 Ø√f`chd
d = 0.8ℓw = 0.8(3)
= 2.4 m or 2400 mm
= 5/6(0.85)(√20.7)(200)(2400)
= 82.274E+9 N
= 82274392.690 kN > 1500 kN OK!

2. Compute Vc for wall (lesser of two values):

Nud
(a) Vc = 0.275 √f`chd +
4hw
0(2400)
= 0.275 (√20.7)(200)(2400) +
4(4200)
= 600563.735 N

(0.1042 √f`c + 0.2Nuh/ℓw)ℓw

(b) Vc = 0.05 √f`chd + (hd)
Mu ℓw
-
Vu 2
ℓw/2 = 1.5 m or 1500 mm Use
hw/2 = 2.1 m or 2100 mm
Mu = Vu(hw - 1500)
= 1500(4200 - 1500)
= 4050000 N-mm
[0.1042(√20.7) + 1.2(0)(200)/3000]3000
= 0.05 (√20.7)(200)(2400) + (200)(2400)
4050000 3000
-
1500 2
= 677909.065 N

Use: Vc = 600563.735 N

3. Is shear reinforcing is needed?

ØVc 0.85(600563.735)
=
2 2
= 300281.868 N < 1500000 N
Therefore shear reinforcement is needed...

4. Select horizontal shear reinforcement.
