A NEED ANALYSIS IN LEARNING ENGLISH FOR CULINARY

Wants:
1. Understand and read the recipes written in English.
2. Fluent in explaining the detail of recipes.
3. Communicating in English to the staffs and customers fluently.
4. Can give the Giving / following instructions.
5. Be able to Take orders in English.
6. Be able to Make suggestions for the customers.
7. Be able to Offer help bot for staffs and customers.
8. Be able to Speak about quantities and ask what staffs doing.

Lack:
1. Read the recipes with some uncommon words.
2. Can not get the talk of people who talk fast English.
3. Have a little trouble to pronounce some difficult words.
4. Have a low confidence in speaking English actively.
5. Low ability to use National and Functional English.

RESULTS

A. LEARNING EXPERIENCE
1. As many as 30% of students started learning English for 1-2 years. And 10% stated that
they learning English for 2-5 years, 10% stated that they learning English for 5-9 years,
50% stated that they learning English for over 9 years. So it can be conclude that most of
them learning English for more that 9 years.
2. As many as 50% of students stated agree that they learn English in School. And 40% of
students stated that they learn English in the language centre, 20% of student stated that
they learn English is by themself, 20 % of students stated that they learn English with
tutor. So it can be conclude that most of them learn English in School.
3. As many as 50% of students stated that the reason that they learn English because it
compulsory. And 80 % of students stated that the reason that they learn English because
they like English, 100% of students stated that the reason that they learn English because
they really want it, 20% of students stated that the reason that they learn English because
is to have fun. So it can be conclude that most of them learn English because to have fun.
4. As many as 100% of students stated that the level of Elementary english level (listening,
writing, and reading ) 70% of students stated that the level of Elementary english level
(listening and reading). And 100% of students stated that the level pre—inter level in
english (listening, reading, writing, grammar) 60% of students stated that the level
pre—inter level in english (reading and grammar), 100% of students stated that the level
of English is intermediate (listening, reading, writing, grammar), and no one of them the
level of English is upper-inter. So it can be conclude that the level of English pre-inter
and intermediate level, Skill listening, reading, writing, and grammar.
5. As many as 20% of student stated they know about chef. And 60% of student stated that
there is little knowledge about chef, 30% of student stated they knowing about chef
enough, 20% of student stated they knowing about chef is overwhelming. So it can be
conclude that they know little knowledge about chef.
6. As many as 60% of students stated they are used to individual teaching style. And 60% of
students stated they are used to pair work teaching style, 20% of students stated they are
used to small group teaching style, 90% of students stated they are used to whole class
teaching style. So it can be conclude they are used to whole class teaching style.

B. TARGET NEEDS
1. 100% of students learn English for study, hobby and for fun , so it can be concluded that
all of them don't learn English for work
2. In each option, 100% of students chose they'll use English for speaking, reading, writing,
and listening, so it can be concluded that all of this options are important for students.
And about 60% of them use English in telephone, 60% chose to use English in face to
face, 80% in Internet, and 90% in mail. So it can be concluded that most of them will use
English in mail channel.
3. 100% of students chose option A (college), B (Teacher), and C (friend), and no one of
them chose D. It can be concluded that there's no student will use English with D
(costumer).
4. 100% student will use English in lecture theater, and at work, but 80% of them will use it
in workshop, and no one will use it in library. It can be concluded that students will use
English in lecture theater and at work.
5. 100% student sometimes use English, and 90% of the students often use it, and 90% use
it frequently. So it can be concluded that students use English sometimes.
6. 80% of the students chose A (I like it) as their motivation in learning English, and 100%
of them chose D (want to improve my English). It can be concluded that all of the
students want to improve their skills in English
