Introduction
• Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) is the most devastating viral disease of banana tree and plantain (Musa
Spp) in the world (1,2).
• It is transmitted by the banana aphid, Pentalonia nigronervosa Coquerel (Homoptera: Aphididae) (1,2).
• The recognition of host plants by phytophagous insects and of the latter by their natural enemies is
mediated by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released by plants (3), and whose qualities and quantities
may vary with infection phytoviruses (3).
• Rational use of the odors emitted by banana trees, in combination with certain natural enemies of aphids,
would prevent the colonization of banana trees by P. nigronervosa Coquerel.
Objectif
• Identify the VOCs emitted by healthy and infected banana trees, having an influence on the feeding
behavior of P. nigronervosa Coquerel.
Materials Methods
• Virus detection by PCR,
• A strain of P. nigronervosa Coquerel • Attractivity test of aphids to banana
from DRC trees using a two-column olfactometer,
• Isolation of VOCs by a dynamic
• Symptomatic and asymptomatic extraction system and their
