2) Analytically examine this statement “Management starts
from planning and ends up with controlling". Provide your own
experiences in your work place. In all management definitions
given by different theorists, there are two important ideas in
common: (1) the five functions of planning, organizing, staffing,
directing, and controlling.
(2) the attainment of organizational goals in an effective and
efficient manner.
Manager use a multitude of skills to perform these function.
Managers set and achieve goals by using human, financial,
material, and information resources. To do this, they plan,
organize, staff, direct, and control. These activities are the five
basic functions of management. The five management
functions are inseparable and often simultaneous elements of a
continuous, interactive process. Implementing plans, for
example, requires acquiring human resource (staffing) and
structuring work groups (organizing). Subordinates must be
guided to complete the plan (directing), and the plan’s progress
must be monitored (controlling).
Planning and controlling are inter-related to each other.Planning set
the goals for the organaziation and controlling ensure their
accomplishments Planning deside the control process and controlling
provid esound basic for planning.
In planning the objectives or targets are sets in order to achieve
this targets control process is needed. So planning precedes
control i9n controlling the actual performance is compared to
rhe standards set and records the deviations.

4) "Managerial planning seeks to achieve a coordinated
structure of operations". Comment.
Managerial planning seeks to achieve a consistent coordinated
structure of oprations focused ondesired ends. The goal may be
implicit or explicit but well defiend goal are essential for efficient
planning.

5)” without planning an enterprise would soon disintegrate, its
actions would be as random as leaves scampering before an
autumn wind, and its employee as confused as ants in an
unturned ant hill”. comment
planning is essential for the enterprise as a whole. ”without
planning, an enterprise will soon disintegrate, the pattern of its
actions would be as random as that made by leaves
scampering(running quickly in short steps) before an autumn
wind, and its employees would be as confused as ants in an
unturned anthill.”
If there is no plan, action will be a random activity in the
organization; instead there will be chaos. Planning is the most
fundamental function of management. An organization can
succeed ineffective utilization of its human financial and
material resources only when its management decides in
advance its objectives, and methods of achieving them.
Without it purposive and coordinated effort is not possible, and
what result are chaos, confusion and wastage of resource.
Planning thus precedes all efforts and action, as it is the plans
and programs that determine the kind of decisions and
activities required for the attainment of the desired goals.
