Course Rationale

The global economic recovery has created a business environment into a complex world of competition, innovation and myriad of challenges that may break or sustain in a long
run basis. The rapid changes d n the macro and micro environments should not be ignored hence the adaptation of these changes should be embraced to sustain or take the
maximum advantage in the competitive world of business.

It is incumbent on business to consider strategic planning which should serve as framework by which it formulates its mission, goals, objectives, policies and strategies. Thus, to
spell the difference in the competitive advantages of the enterprise, strategic plans and strategic management are the key factors that will lead the business to its success and long-
term validity.

Course Description
This course is designed to provide students an effective approach for developing a clear strategic plan. It deals with the environment scanning, proper formulation, implementation
and evaluation of strategies for the effective and efficient operation of business organizations. It includes a study of STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT process being adopted by
companies including a study of the process of setting and re-setting goals of the organization, reviewing and developing of strategies, implementation, evaluation and control
process. Strategic issues are likewise discussed to highlight the trends and challenges for today’s Strategic Planning and Strategic Management.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

A graduate of a business or management degree should be able to:

1. Identify the expectations of the students and teacher


2. Discuss the significant of Strategic Management in the effective and efficient operation of business.
3. Illustrate an understanding on the implications of Strategic Management in the operation of business.
4. Develop among students the value of integrity, honesty, thrift, objectivity, competence, and deeper sense of social awareness and social responsibility.
5. Analyze business cases, business’ strategic plans and policies including business operations.
6. Apply the concepts, theories, principles and techniques in developing strategic plans of chosen enterprises and / or organizations.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)


1. Demonstrate competence in communication in multicultural settings through writing, speaking, and other medium of expression.
2. Apply critically holistic frameworks on current and relevant moral/ethical issues in the domestic and global spheres.
3. Examine shared concerns that make up the “good life” as inspired by the Gospel and the Church’s teachings to formulate creative and innovative solutions to contemporary
problems, especially brought by modern technologies.
4. Choose appropriate decision making techniques and approaches to critically and creatively solve problems and drive results.

activity.
10. Conduct planning that will be implemented in the business related activities.
11. Identify and describe the functions of management and other functional areas of business such as marketing, finance, human resource management, production and operations
management, information management, and strategic management and employ these concepts in various business situations.
12. Demonstrate critical thinking ability to address major challenges such as economic uncertainty and technological breakthroughs.
13. Design an organizational structure that will support long term strategic goals.
14. Discuss current trends and developments in Business Management.
15. Design a Strategic Plan that will further support the diversification and expansion of business.

Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO)

The Ateneo de Naga University Graduate is a person for others characterized by Christ-centeredness, conscience, compassion, competence, and commitment to change.

world. Thus, the Atenean:

1. Predicates one’s decisions and actions on principles that promotes human dignity, and those that further the actualization of all humanity.
2. Cultivates foresight in the process of deciding and acting on ethical and moral problems.
3. Explores, questions, and owns one’s faith in the context of competing value systems.
4. Evaluates moral choices in the light of the mature conscience.
5. Practices the habit of reflection and contemplation.

III. COMPASSION. The Atenean grows in consciousness of one’s dignity and personal purpose in engaging the world. Thus, the Atenean:

1. Values one’s dignity as a person and that of others.


2. Serves the needy and the marginalized.
3. Promotes family unity and fosters family service in the community.
4. Recognizes one’s strengths and inadequacies and seeks out complementariness from and with others.
5. Reflects on one’s experiences/actions towards becoming an agent of change.

IV. COMPETENCE. The Atenean actuates the gift of education as an instrument to comprehend, judge, and respond to urgent and universal human dilemmas. Thus, the
Atenean:
1.Professes exceptional knowledge and expertise in one’s field of specialization in the local and global community.
2.Applies interdisciplinary approaches, innovative methods, and appropriate technologies in analyzing, solving problems, and in making decisions in a moral and
ethical manner.
3. Thinks critically, creatively, and reflectively.
4. Expresses one’s self proficiently in both oral and written communication.
5. Practices the value of further learning and professional development, adapting to demands of the changing times.
V. COMMITMENT TO CHANGE. The Atenean participates actively in the life of the society and the global community. Thus, the Atenean:

1. Acts on the world in life, love, freedom, responsibility, and community to build a good and just society and thereby bring into being the Regnum Dei.
2. Understands and responds proactively against structural and cultural roots of injustice in social institutions.
3. Resolves the moral ambiguities and inconsistencies in values promoted by local and global cultures.
4. Advocates social changes that assist victims of injustice in gaining their rights and regaining their dignity.
5. Demonstrates positive disposition, maturity, and courage, rooted in Ignatian values, in the face of adversity.
