MODULE: Information Systems for Management – MGMT 641

Objective
The basic objective of the assignment is to make students be cognizant of enterprises’ IT
infrastructure, the business services/processes supported with the information systems, and
managerial implication they have brought.

Brief Assignment Guideline


1. Assess the IT Infrastructure of the company of your choice. You can consider one of the
following information systems or a similar one:

IFMIS – Ministry of Finance


Amazon or Similar e-commerce Site in Ethiopia
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) or another Bank Core Banking System
Ethiopian Airlines Booking and Ticket Sale System
Revenue Authority IS Systems
Ethio Telecom Customer Support
Lehulu Payment System (Financial Technology)
Midroc ERP
2. Students are required to work only on one topic and one topic is assigned to a maximum
of three students. Group work is not allowed. Topics and organizations are selected by
students. Assignment to organization or topic is based on first come first served
principle.

3. Students are required to prepare a mature report. The report should contain three
issues/components.
I. Explain as to where the role of the information system used by the organization
falls among the information systems categories/roles in an organization as per
discussion of the course material. Describe briefly background of the
organization and IT units/processes structure in the organization.
II. Describe the IT infrastructure in use by the enterprise or organization
considering the following components:
a. Computer hardware platforms
b. Enterprise software applications
c. Data management and storage
d. Networking/telecommunications platforms

III. Describe Management Challenges: Explain the advantages (e.g. return on


investment, cost reduced), unintended consequences, challenges faced to
run/execute the system properly, and intended solutions by managers of the
organization.
4. The document should contain a minimum of 7 pages and a maximum of 10 pages with
12pts font and 1.5 line spacing including the cover page.

5. This assignment will be marked out of 30 points.
