03 Activity 1 Quantitative

The document contains two probability questions. The first question provides the probability distribution for the number of subjects a student failed in a class of 100 students. The second question constructs the probability distribution for the sum of two spins of a spinner, where the probability of landing on 1 is 0.25 and landing on 2 is 0.75.

1. In a class of 100 students, 80 students passed in all subjects, 10 failed in one

subject, 7 failed in two subjects and 3 failed in three subjects. Find the
probability distribution of the variable for number of subjects a student from
the given class has failed in.

The probability of failing in 0 subjects:

80⁄100‌
P(X=0) = 0.8
The probability of failing in 1 subject:
10⁄100‌
P(X=1) = 0.1
The probability of failing in 2 subjects:
7⁄100‌
P(X=2) = 0.07
The probability of failing in 3 subjects:
3⁄100‌
P(X=3) = 0.03
2. The spinner shown below is spun two times. The probability of landing on 1
is 0.25. The probability of landing on 2 is 0.75. Let X be the sum of the two
spins. Construct a probability distribution for the random variable x.
Probability distribution:
P (sum of 2) = 0.25 x 0.25 = 0.0625
P (sum of 3) = 0.25 x 0.75 = 0.1875
P (sum of 4) = 0.75 x 0.75 = 0.5625
x | P(x)
2 = 0.0625
3 = 0.1875
4 = 0.5625
0.0625 + 0.1875 + 0.5625 = 1
