TASK 12−11−00−910−801
Safety Precautions − Fuel System

1. Procedure
Subtask 12−11−00−910−001

A. Obey all of the cautions and warnings when you fuel/defuel the aircraft as follows:
WARNING: OBEY ALL OF THE FUEL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE
FUEL SYSTEM AND/OR A FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENT. IF YOU DO NOT DO
THIS YOU CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL TENDER AND THE FUEL NOZZLE ARE
ELECTRICALLY BONDED TO THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE YOU DEFUEL OR REFUEL
THE AIRCRAFT. AN ELECTROSTATIC SPARK DURING REFUELING/DEFUELING
CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION OR A FIRE.
WARNING: DO NOT LET THE FUEL TOUCH YOUR SKIN OR YOUR EYES. DO NOT BREATHE
THE FUMES OR SWALLOW FUEL. IT CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS LEVELED BEFORE YOU USE THE
MAGNA−STICK. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOU WILL NOT GET A CORRECT
FUEL QUANTITY INDICATION.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM REFUELING PRESSURE OF 50 PSI (345 KPA).
EXCESSIVE PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
B. Obey the safety precautions when you fuel/defuel the aircraft as follows:
(1) Do not smoke in or around the aircraft.
(2) Do not permit any flame around the aircraft.
(3) Position the approved type of fire fighting equipment near the aircraft and make sure that
the persons refueling the aircraft are familiar with its use.
(4) Connect the bonding cable from the fuel tender to the bonding stud on the main landing
gear drag strut.
(5) Before you connect the fuel nozzle to the refuel/defuel adapter during pressure refueling,
connect the bonding cable on the fuel nozzle to the GROUND HERE bonding point adjacent
to the fuel adapter.
(6) Before you remove the overwing filler cap during gravity refueling, connect the bonding
cable on the fuel nozzle to the GROUND HERE bonding point adjacent to the filler cap.
(7) Do not operate electrical/electronic equipment during the refuel/defuel operation.
(8) Prevent fuel spillage. This will greatly increase the risk of fire.
(9) If a fuel spillage occurs, stop the refuel/defuel operation immediately and clean the area of
the fuel spillage before the refuel/defuel operation continues.
(10) Use the approved type and clean fuel to refuel the aircraft.
(11) Do not use felt or chamois filters. These materials contribute to fuel contamination and,
electrostatically charge the fuel.
