PAST TENSE PASSIVE VOICE
PRESENTATION

The steps of creating past tense passive voice in past tense are not different from its creation
in simple present passive voice. The difference is only in the suing of verb be. In past tense
passive voice, you use WAS and WERE as verb be.

Review the examples below:


Active : The singer sang some old songs last night.
Passive : Some old songs were sung by the singer last night.

Active : The teacher didn’t give homework last week.


Passive : Homework wasn’t given by the teacher last week.

Active : Did the mechanic repair your car two days ago?
Passive : Was your car repaired by the mechanic two days ago?

PRACTICE

task 1
Change the following sentences into passive voice.

1. The manager paid the employees’ salary a week ago.


2. We didn’t know the answers of the questions.
3. Did our teacher tell what we must do?
4. My father drank some coffee just now.
5. Some students didn’t do their homework.
6. Did our leaders give special instructions to deal with the virus?
7. Yono gave very low offer to buy my tablet.
8. I obviously didn’t accept Yono’s offer.
9. Did Yono know how much the price of a high class tablet?
10. Yono finally bought a goat.

Change the active sentence into passive or the passive into active. Pay attention
whether each tense is present or past tense.

1. The book was written by a young writer.


2. My friend ate many traditional foods when he was in Central Java.
3. The principal of the school checks the school rooms every week.
4. Do all students wash their hands three times in a day?
5. Old movies are not watched by my sister.
6. The disease killed many people all over the world in 2002.

Read the text and find out 10 incorrect words in it.

Rudyard Kipling, one of Britain's most fame writers, was born in Bom-
bay, India. in 1865, where. his English father was working for the Brit-
ain government. Kipling spent his early childhood in India. At six he was
taken to England and education in an English school. From 1882 until
1883 he was editing of his school paper. He went back to India in 1883.
There he became interesting in writing and worked for a newspaper.
When he was twenty-one he published his first book, which was a small
book of poet. Before he was twenty-four he had brought out a small
collect of short stories. These were well liked and were full of brilliance
descriptions and accurate observations.

Between 1887 and 1899 Kipling traveled around the world. He visited China, Japan, and he
lived for a few years in America, where he married an American woman. During this period, he
wrote several of his most popularity works, the stories for children, which made him famous;
The Jungle Books (1894), Kim (1901) and Just So Stories (1902). He also published several
books of poetry during this time. Kipling returned to England from America and spent the rest
of his life there until his die in 1936.
