Dye Sensitized Solar (DSSC)

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) have some key advantages over conventional solar cells: - In DSSCs, light absorption and charge transport are decoupled, with light being absorbed by a dye sensitizer on a TiO2 semiconductor, rather than throughout the semiconductor itself. - Only a monolayer of dye is needed on the TiO2 layer in DSSCs, whereas conventional cells require precise doping and high purity/crystallinity of the semiconductor. - DSSCs perform better than silicon solar panels as they are more sensitive to heat and can generate power even when the sun is not directly overhead, unlike conventional cells which only maximize output at midday.

Q1 Discuss the dual axis time controller solar power system to achieve high output gain of a solar

system? How one can achieve high output?

Single-axis trackers follow the sun across a horizontal plane, but dual-axis trackers
move in a more direct, circular path.

To track the sun in two directions that is elevation and azimuth, a dual-axis
tracking prototype is developed to capture the maximum sun rays by tracking the
movement of the sun in four different directions. One axis is azimuth which allows
the solar panel to move left and right. The dual axis solar panel consists of two separate
control systems: the tilting axis, and the rotating axis. The tilting axis is housed in a
wooden frame with a 180-degree servo motor. the dual trackers include vertical and
horizontal movements i.e. they can incline or tilt to account for winter and summer sun
angles. Single Axis Trackers are trackers with only one degree through which they
rotate or use as axis of rotation. This axis is usually aligned following the North
meridian. They rotate azimuthally from east to west following the path of a sun. Double
or Dual Axis Tracker have two different degrees through which they use as axis of
rotation. The dual axis are usually at a normal of each rotate both east to west (zenithal)
and north to south

“Different manufacturers use different methods of tracking to follow the sun. Some dual-
axis trackers use GPS signals to determine the tracker’s latitude and longitude, as well
as the date and time. With this information, the tracker will know the position of the sun
for any given time and orient itself to face the sun using a hydraulic drive system. The
tracker will be facing the sun even during cloudy periods, so when the clouds part the
tracker will already be positioned to maximize power production without any delays to
reposition itself.

 Since the panels are always directly facing the sun, it is estimated that its dual-
axis trackers produce 45% more energy than a fixed-roof system and up to 30%
more than a fixed-ground-mount system.

Residential customers turn to dual-axis trackers often because they have the land-
space available and want to maximize their output.

Q#2 Describe the key features of dye sensitized solar cell as compared to conventional solar cell?
Which one is better? How

Dye sensitized solar (Dssc)

 In Dye sensitized solar cell, light absorption and charge transport are decoupled.
 In Dye sensitized, only monolayer of dye is present on TiO2.
 Dye-sensitized solar panel is much better than silicon solar panel as Dye sensitized solar
panel is very sensitive to heat and not depend only on midday where is that is the maximum
ambient temperature for both solar panel as silicon solar panel only can give maximum and
high output only when midday.
Conventional solar cell

 In Conventional solar cell, charge carriers (electrons which are excited) are produced
throughout the semiconductor.
 In Conventional, the semiconductor considerations are Precise doping, high purity and high
crystallinity.

A dye‐sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is a low‐cost solar cell belonging to the group of thin film solar
cells. It is based on a semiconductor formed between a photo‐sensitized anode and an electrolyte, a
photo electrochemical system. The dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC) provide a technically and
economically credible alternative concept to present day p–n junction photovoltaic devices. In
contrast to the conventional systems where the semiconductor assumes both the task of light
absorption and charge carrier transport the two functions are separated here. Light is absorbed by a
sensitizer, which is anchored to the surface of a wide band semiconductor
