Introduction to Moot Court

Moot court involves a simulated appellate court (appellate advocacy) or arbitral case, which
is focused solely on the application of the law to a common set of evidentiary assumptions,
facts, and clarifications/corrections to which the competitors are introduced. It is one of the
key extracurricular activities in law schools. A moot court competition not only helps the
students to boost their confidence and remove the fear of public speaking, but it also gives
them an insight of real world of the litigation

About the Fresher’s Moot Court

The fresher moot court aims at making the first year students step in to the environment or
mooting, by providing them an in house platform. This Competition is conducted every year
by the School of Law through its Moot Court Association(MCA). This year the competition
was held on 30th March, 2019 and it was conducted under the Guidance of our I/C Director
Dr. Sunita Magre and Incharge Dr. RainaMidha.

Inauguration:

The Moot Court was inaugurated with the welcome and Motivational speech by our I/C
Director Dr. Sunita Magre, in which she boosted the Moral of the students by her words and
gave an insight about the benefit of the mooting to the law students. She welcomed the guest
of Hon Dr. Francis Vaidya and Principal Suman Verma and facilitated her as a mark of
appreciation.

Moot Court Proposition:

The members of the Moot Court Association of University of Mumbai, which is the
organizing body for this competition Thane sub Campus, frame the Moot proposition every
year. This year the proposition was related to the Indian Contract Act, 1872, in which the
teams had to prepare the case from both petitioner and the respondent’s side.

Registered and participated teams:

Total eight teams had registered for this competition. The details of the participated teams is
given below-

1. Devashree and Pooja

2. Raj, Anushka and Lourdes

3. Ashveen and Aarusha

4. Vidya and Vaishanavi

5. Ankit and Aishwarya

6. Priya and Anusha

7. Vibha, Akshita and Dhwani

8. Deepali and Vishaka

Arrangement of the Teams:

Each participating team consisted of two participants and 2 teams consisted of three
participants i.e. Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and Researcher. Total participants were 18. In all two
rounds one speaker from a team has to argue against the speaker of another teams

Rounds:

The whole activity is divided in three rounds which start with draw of lots. It was held on 29th
march 2019, when the teams selected their opponents through draw of lots and also got to
select whether they are presenting from petitioner or respondents side

Preliminary round:

Preliminary round was conducted in college building. For this round four court halls were
arranged and in each court hall two teams with unique code were distributed by drawing the
lots. Each court hall was consisting of one judge, who were the practising advocates in
district and High Court.

Semi Finals:

As a rule, only four teams who secured highest marks can qualify for final round. two semi-
finals were conducted in the Moot Court Hall. The event The following teams were selected

Final round:

Out of the four Si Finalists, two teams qualified for the finals on the basis of scores.We have
invited one Advocate of High Court of Judicature at Bombay to judge the performances of
the final round. The finalist teams were as follows:
