The five rights of knowledge, that is: right information, access to the right people, in the
right setting, applied in the right way, and at the right time, are all vital in creating a reliable
information system to enhance the nursing practice. However, some circumstances might prevent
one from meeting these rights and a nurse might be forced to only meet the most important ones
and omit the least important ones without threatening the quality of nursing care delivered. This
calls for efficient decision making and prioritization, which are also the keys to efficacious
nursing practice.
The most important right is the right people because selecting the right team with
sufficient knowledge to effectively pass important information needed for successful results. The
other right that must ought to be prioritized is right information. Information represents the data
to be manipulated, therefore, this right is preceded by the right person since people represent the
manpower to manipulate the data (Hassan, 2019). The information must be right in order to
make correct decisions. The third most important right is the way since it determines the manner
in which the information is interpreted and delivered to clients. Creditable information can be
inadequate if delivered in the wrong manner (Hassan, 2019). The fourth but not the least is the
right setting. This right provides that nursing informatics need correct facilities in order to be
implemented in the best way. Therefore, people, information and the way of delivery are all
This therefore means that the right that I could sacrifice if forced by circumstances is the
right time. Nurses must be vigilant of time because any time wasted could take ways the life of
the patient. Nonetheless, the introduction of information system has made operations easier for
nurses as we can now self-schedule our shifts easily (Hassan, 2019). This enable better care
