MOTIVATION AND LEADERSHIP
1. EXPLAIN A CONTENT THEORY OF MOTIVATION AND A PROCESS
THEORY OF MOTIVATION AND ILLUSTRATE HOW THEY CAN
EXPLAIN ACTIONS OF INDIVIDUALS AT FRASER FOOD.

Content theory by Herzberg’s: Herzberg’s Motivator Theory / Hygiene theory

was writing in 1959 by Frederick Herzberg’s. According to Herzberg’s theory
employees are motivated by two sets of factors motivators and hygiene
factors.
Hygiene factors are the factors that demotivated employees such as poor pay
rates, working conditions, company procedures and policies, benefits, job
security, poor management.
Motivator factors are the group of factors that motivates employees. The
motivators are also linked to Maslow’s hierarchy theory and involve rewards
for employees with status and recognition, promotion and achievement and
delegated responsibility.

Factors where Fraser Food management applies Herzberg’s Theory:

1. Empowerment: At Fraser Food chefs can discuss their ideas with the
managers and they are allowed to use their skills and talents to create new
recipes and choose the way they do their job following the health and
safety procedures and company standards. At the Shop floor the team
have the freedom to organize their task throughout the day to achieved the
targets that the company set.
2. Fair Pay: the company offers a competitive remuneration package that is
above the minimum wage rate and are offered bonuses when targets are
achieved.
3. Incentives: employees have other non-financial incentives like health
insurance, pension scheme, subsidised canteen and profit-sharing
scheme.
4. Development Opportunities/Recognition: employees receive regular
training courses and management updates. At Fraser Food staff members
can improve their skills and some of them has been promoted already.

Process Theory: Adams Equity Theory: This theory state that people motivation
is based on their desire to be fairly treated. Employees expect that their reward
from work is equal with to their contribution. Adams’ Equity Theory states the
equal relationship between the inputs (individual’s contribution) and their benefits
(outputs, rewards) is important for their sense of fairness and equity then when
these facts are equal the staff will continue to be motivated.

Inputs (skills, time, Education levels) = Outputs (salary, bonus, benefits and
promotion)

Factors where Fraser Food management applies Adams Equity Theory:

1. Leaders and managers at Fraser Food address staff perception keeping them
well informed of all the processes, issues and company success highlighting
the importance of the role of everyone for that success, do they make sure
there are treated equally with no favouritism.
2. Staff members are giving recognition when they are allowed to take part in
customers visits and be fully aware and informed of the company
improvements and plans.
3. All the staff members of Fraser Food are paid above the minimum wage and
all of them enjoy the same non-financial incentives such as the profit-sharing
scheme.
4. Staff members are allowing taking responsibility for their work having the
freedom to organize and carry out their work. As a result, allowing the staff to
be involved in meetings they develop its motivation when feels that their work
matter for the organisation.

2. EXPLAIN THE METHODS USED BY MANAGERS TO IMPROVE JOB

PERFORMANCE WITHIN FRASER FOODS AND JUSTIFY SUITABILITY.

- Set clear goals: employees need clear directions about their

responsibilities what is expected from them to achieve, Fraser Foods
employees know what is expected from them and they are also allowing
making decisions that help the company to achieve its goals.
- Good Communication: management team have good communication with
staff members and involve them in the whole work process, the staff
members feel valuable and important.
- Incentives: the company values its staff and to prove they reward staff with
different financial and non-financial incentives then staff performs better.
- Training and development: employees want to develop their skills and be
able to progress in their career, the HR team at Fraser Foods provides
training opportunities for its employees to improve their job performance.
- Corporate Culture: managers used different styles to persuade their teams
at Fraser Food teamwork and empowerment are the key to good job
performance.

3. EXPLAIN THE IMPORTANCE OF TEAM WORKING AND STATE HOW IT

OPERATES WITHING FRASER FOODS.

There are several benefits from teamwork, Fraser Food managers have
proven that when staff work as a team, they:

- Boots productivity business operates according to changes in the market

at teams are more productive.

JERLIN GIRON | MPO LO2 ASSESSSMENT

- Develop a sense of strong work ethic and team spirit, increasing staff
morale and flexibility.
- Better services, staff work as a team to develop new products that satisfy
costumers needs under the best quality standard.
- Bring in the best of each team member, other staff members could benefit
from the most creative and skilled and let them lead the project while
learning new skills.
- Working in a team inspire others. It promotes friendship. By making the
work placement a happy place, staff members will lead the company to
success.
- Gain new perspectives staff and managers could discuss and interact
between them, while provides a good chance to get a new viewpoint and
angle about certain things or issues that might arise during the project
development.

4. IDENTIFY AND ANALYSE THREE FACTORS THAT AFFECT TEAM

COHESIVENESS AND PERFORMANCE. EXAMINE THE INFLUENCES OF
THE THREE FACTORS IN FRASER FOODS.
- Poor leadership: management behaviour could directly affect the team
cohesiveness, perhaps a manager could create unhealthy competition
between employees giving some staff members more empowerment,
opportunities, and responsibilities over others.
- Shared goals: When a group achieves a meaningful goal, the
cohesiveness of the group increases because they share the success of
their job, this increases their morale and flexibility than the team keep
cohesive and the company could achieve its targets. However, when each
member of the team has different goals problems might arise making the
task harder to complete.
- Attitudes and Values: The similarity in values, morals, beliefs, and code of
conduct could affect cohesiveness in a positive manner. However, if the
members of the team have different values and objectives the project
could be affected and delay, whereas when teams try to be the focus of
the company goals and have a similar attitude towards their work they will
keep together until they meet is goals. At Fraser Foods teams seems to
have same values and work with company policies and focus on company
goals, even though the company is in ways of expansion and staff could
easily lost their focus because they are not sure what changes are about
to arise and what will be expected from them. Management should make
sure the teams continue to work together and be able to follow the rules.
