I. Introductory Concept
C Major scale is considered the most common scale where there is neither
sharp nor flat sign in it. It has seven notes namely: do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti, or pitch
names: C-D-E-F-G-A-B respectively.
C Major Scale
Here is a folk song in C major scale. The song “Yaman ng Bayan” is on C major
scale because the first note is Do which is located on the C line of the staff.

Melody is one of the important elements in music. It is a musical line that is made up
of a series of tones and pitches. Its characteristics include range, shape, and movement.
Melodies have central musical ideas that can be heard repeatedly throughout the song. Those
melodies have a shape or contour that moves up and down.
In this lesson, you will create a simple melody of your own using your prior
understanding of the keys of C, F, and G major.
III. Activities
ACTIVITY 1
Direction: Write the sol-fa names of the song below based on the given key signature.
Take note that it is in the Key of F Major and the hometone “do” is found on the first space.

Direction: Based on the given time signature, draw the correct note on its right place
on the staff. Be aware that the song is in the Key of G Major. The hometone “do” is found on
the second line.

Direction: Using your previous experiences in the activities above, create a simple
melody for the following lyrics. Consider the proper syllabication of the words when creating a

Melodies have central musical ideas that can be heard repeatedly throughout the song. Those
melodies have a shape or contour that moves up and down.
In this lesson, you will perform and sing your self-composed melodies.
