PURPOSE
To notify fleet customers of the potential for leaks caused by gasket location deviation and / or gasket damage caused
in the packaging, shipping, handling, and installation of kammprofile gaskets.
Compliance Category
M - Maintenance Identifies maintenance guidelines or best practices for reliable equipment
operation.
C - Compliance Required Identifies the need for action to correct a condition that, if left uncorrected,
may result in reduced equipment reliability or efficiency. Compliance may be
required within a specific operating time.
A - Alert Failure to comply with the TIL could result in equipment damage or facility
damage. Compliance is mandated within a specific operating time.
S – Safety Failure to comply with this TIL could result in personal injury. Compliance is
mandated within a specific operating time.
Timing Code

BACKGROUND DISCUSSION
GE has discovered a non-conformance with select kammprofile gaskets manufactured before July 30, 2015. GE
recommends that sites should inspect their stock of kammprofile gaskets immediately for damage from manufacturing,
shipping and handling to avoid potential system contamination and / or leakage caused by damage to the graphite
area of the gaskets. Gaskets manufactured after July 30, 2015 are considered free of this non-conformance from the
manufacturer however visual inspection is still recommended due to the soft features of the gaskets and the potential
for damage to occur in shipping and handling.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Gasket Inspection:
Sites should inspect their kammprofile gaskets prior to installation. If any of these conditions occur, do not install the
gasket(s) and return it / them to GE for replacement.
a) The graphite area of the gasket appears dented despite the use of cardboard softeners.
b) The graphite is out of position, and / or does not maintain the minimum .060” standoff from the inner diameter of the
stainless steel.
d) There is any indication that the entire area of the graphite will not be captured in the clamping area of the flange.
Note: Due to the potential of contamination and / or damage from improper installation of kammprofile gaskets (part
numbers: 372A1159PXXXX), GE recommends using spiral wound gaskets with an inner ring for flanges in gas turbine
applications above two (2) inches in diameter (Part Number Family N5606XXXX) as directed by TIL 1213-R2.
1) Kammprofile gaskets must be handled carefully from shipping, delivery, uncrating and storage.
2) Kammprofile gaskets should be inspected immediately upon delivery to site to the inspection criteria above and the
inspection / rejection criteria below.
4) When replacing spiral wound gaskets with kammprofile gaskets, all flanges must be thoroughly cleaned, dry and be
free of scratches and scoring.

5) Kammprofile gaskets cannot be forced into tight fitting flanges as gasket damage will occur.
7) When removing kammprofile gaskets the graphite may fall apart and thus create a possible contamination issue. All
prudent efforts should be taken to avoid contamination.
Graphite damage is the primary cause of gasket rejection and unreliability. The GE inspection / rejection guidelines
include:
The existence of any place on the graphite surface where the peaks of the metal core are exposed where
graphite coverage is supposed to be, the gasket should be rejected.
The existence of a scratch or dent covering more than 50% of the sealing width at a depth of greater than 0.01
inches or more, the gasket should be rejected.
The existence of a scratch on the radius arc more than 2 inches length and at a depth greater than 0.01 inches
or more, the gasket should be rejected.
Note: If users have any questions regarding whether a gasket is acceptable for use please contact your GE Service
Representative or contact engineering@lamons.com for further guidance and interpretation.
This TIL can be considered complete when all the affected gaskets have been handled and inspected per GE
Acceptance criteria and/or affected gaskets have been removed and replaced.

Scope of Work
Unpack and inspect the entire stock of kammprofile gaskets visually for graphite gasket centering, dents, scratches or
delamination. If any gaskets appear to be un-acceptable for service return them to GE for full replacement
