1 - SUBJECT

The purpose of this technical specification is to define the basic guidelines for the design, manufacturing,
testing and delivering of SUBSEA HYDRAULIC BALL VALVE with design pressure of 3600 psi to be
installed up to 1000 m of water depth.

3 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

3.1 - Valve and actuator assembly life time: 20 years.

3.2 - Rated water depth: up to 1000m.

3.3 - The minimum design temperature shall be 0°C. Water temperature at operation depth
(minimum/average/maximum): 2° C/10° C/20° C

3.4 - Process and control fluid characteristics according to Material Requisition.

3.5 - Valve and actuator shall be designed for the rated internal pressure with no external pressure and the
external pressure related to the rated water depth with no internal pressure.

3.6 - Valve assembly shall be fail safe close, with spring return. It means that if the hydraulic system fails,
the valve shall keep the position closed.

3.7 - The valve shall not have internal stops for the valve assembly position. The ball open and close stops
shall be incorporated in the actuator.

3.8 - Valve assembly shall be equipped with mechanical override for ROV: the mechanical override shall
have mechanical stops limits and shall not displace hydraulic or compensation fluid. The hydraulic actuator
shall be capable of being pressurised even with the mechanical override actuated, without any damage.

3.9 - Mechanical rotating actuation of the valves shall be clockwise to close and counter clockwise to open.

3.10 - The ROV override interface shall be in accordance with ROV Operations and Tooling - ET-3500.00-1514-
612-PSE-001.

3.11 - Welding Ends in accordance with ASME/B31.4 and ASME/B31.8.

3.12 - Lifting lugs are required .

3.13 - Design shall be documented in 3D CAD (dgn or dwg) and all design documentation shall be legible,
reproducible, and retrievable.

3.14 - Design documentation shall be reviewed and verified by qualified personnel.

3.15 - The valve shall be painted in accordance with item 2.2 of referenced standards or the Material Requisition.
Colour according to Material Requisition.

4 - SPECIFIC VALVE REQUIREMENTS

4.1 - Nominal diameter according to Material Requisition.

4.2 - Maximum working pressure: 3600 psi.

4.3 - Maximum differential pressure: 3000 psi.

4.4 - Nominal pressure designations class for ASME/ANSI-B16.5: CLASS 1500

4.5 - Valve shall be designed full bore, unless otherwise stated in the Material Requisition.

4.6 - Valve pressure/temperature ratings shall be specified in accordance with the appropriate material
pressure/temperature rating table in ASME/ANSI-B16.34.

4.7 - The valve body and internals shall be compatible with the specified service (fluids, flow rate, pressure
and temperature).

4.8 - Valve materials (body internal parts, plugs, etc.) shall withstand the corrosive action of sea water and
pipeline fluid. (ANSI B16-34 Section 5).

4.9 - Valve shall be trunnion mounted.

4.10 - Valve shall be self lubricated.

4.11 - Seats shall be metallic provided with PTFE based inserts.

4.12 - The seat-to-ball sealing shall have also the characteristics described below:

- it shall be energised by increasing of the internal pressure of the pipeline.


- it shall have a device for automatic adjustment of the contact between seals and ball, to ensure the
efficiency at low pressures in the pipeline.

4.13 - Metal-to-metal sealing between body/bonnet and body/closures .All internal sealing surfaces shall be
austenitic stainless steel weld overlaid in order to provide corrosion resistance.

4.14 - Non-metallic seals material shall be specially developed for explosive decompression service (with
certificate), except for the ones used in corrosion prevention bolt caps, if used.

4.15 - Standard end-to-end dimension for valve sizes shall be in accordance with ASME/ANSI B16.10.

4.16 - Whether in the open or close position, pressure on each side of the ball shall be blocked from the
body cavity.

4.17- Calculated combined stresses in the drive train components at the design thrust/torque shall not exceed
those listed below:
Bending/Tension - 0.67 Sy
Shear/Torsion - 0,40 Sy
Bearing - 0,90 Sy
A strength efficiency factor of 0,75 shall be used for fillet welds. Where: Sy = Specified Minimum Yield
Strength (SMYS).

Note: The drive train comprises all parts between the operator and the obturator (closure member) including
the obturator. (The operator is not defined as part of the drive train).

4.18 - Valve shall be provided with automatic pressure relief mechanism.

4.19 - Where supplied, drain and vent connections or plug entries shall be drilled and threaded (with NPS
1”). Threads shall be either tapered and capable of making a pressure tight seal ,or parallel threaded
.Connections or plugs with parallel threads shall have a head section which traps and retains a sealing
member suitable for the valve service .Threads sizes shall be conform specifications ASME/ANSI-B1.20.1
and ASME/ANSI-B1.1.

4.20 - Valves without position stops shall have provisions for open/close alignment verification with the
operator/actuator removed.

4.21 - Valve shall be provided with:


- A pressure compensation chamber in order to equalise spring cavity internal pressure and external pressure.
compensating chamber shall be physically located at the valve body.
- A pressure safety device in order to protect the spring cavity in case of leakage of the pressurised hydraulic
fluid to this cavity.

4.22 - Valve shall be designed to have the same allowable loads (bending moment, axial tension and axial
compression) of an equal pipe (same diameter of the valve) with wall thickness (related to the subsea
equipment design pressure) off API-5LX-65 pipe at the yielding stress.

4.23 - Stem - actuator interface shall be splined in order to minimise stress concentration. Stem top shall also
be provided with a master spline in line with the pipeline when valve is in the open position.

4.24 - The stem strength shall be acceptable for the actuator output forces (see items 5.9 and 5.10).

4.25 - Valves shall be provided with double block and body bleed facility, in order to allow body pressure
be drained through the body port.

4.26 - Seats shall be provided with double piston effect, allowing both upstream and downstream sealing.

4.27 - Blow-out proof stem.

4.28 - Preferably integral stem-ball assembly. If the valve construction type doesn’t allow that, the stem end
in contact with the ball shall be, at least, rectangular avoiding pins that are subjected to failure when
subjected to high shear stress.

4.29 - Valve Trim

Ball - ASTM A217 Gr CA15 (or similar) - nickel plated


Seats - alloy steel-nickel plated or ASTM A747 CB7 - Cu7 or other corrosion resistant alloy steel

4.30 - Valve body shall be standard weld end.

5 - SPECIFIC ACTUATOR REQUIREMENTS

5.1 - O-Ring seals are not permitted for dynamic sealing. The sealing shall be EDS (Explosive
Decompression Service).

5.2 - The actuator shall have linear hydraulic transmission, with spring-return.

5.3 - The components that will have contact with hydraulic fluid shall not have any alteration in their
characteristics, and shall not contaminate the hydraulic fluid.

5.4 - Cleanliness level shall be class 10 according to NAS 1638 and the actuator assembly shall be performed
in a clean room, to avoid contamination.

5.5 - The actuator shall have internal stops to ensure the correct open/close positions of the valve.

5.6 - The design shall consider the hydrostatic external pressure and the range of the actuator working
pressure.

5.7 - Volume compensator is also scope of supply, and shall be external to the actuator.

5.8 - The actuator drive shall exert the minimum side loads on the valve stem.

5.9 - Design criterion of the mechanical override shall take into account failure caused by fortuitous OVER
TORQUE, that could be needed in case of contingency. At least 2 TIMES nominal breakaway torque shall be
reached.

5.10 - The minimum output torque of the actuator to the valve stem shall be:
- 1,3 times the clean valve (open) break torque.
- 2,0 times the clean valve (close) re-seat torque.

Notes:
- The torque generated shall be at the hydraulic supply pressure of 1500 psi.
- The valve torque used shall be those generated by the full differential pressure of the pipeline across the
valve. (Pipeline fluid max. operating pressure).
- The maximum output torque of the actuator at 3000 psi supply pressure shall be less than valve stem
maximum torque strength (stress calculation shall consider side loads, if existing).

5.11 - The primary monitoring of the valve position will be done by monitoring the pressure of the hydraulic
actuation lines. The secondary monitoring will be by a visual indicator for observation with ROV, that have
to be manufactured with materials and coatings capable to avoid marine growth.

5.12 - The valve and actuator assembly shall be design for being operated perfectly for any actuator position,
without necessity of supporting the actuator. The assembly position shall not affect the sealing and the valve
stem, or increase the operating torque.

5.13 - Means shall be provided for the unique location to prevent misalignment or improper assembly or
reassemble of the components.

5.14 - All external connections shall be sealed to prevent environmental from entering mechanism. Due
account shall be taken of the hydrostatic head pressure when designing the actuator/gearbox.

5.15 - Stem extensions and interface assemblies shall be provided with a means to prevent pressure build up
in the mechanism from stem or bonnet seal leakage.

5.16 - Stem and/or seat sealant injection shall be provided. Sealant injection fittings on the valve body shall
include dual check valves and/or pressure retaining caps, with at least one check valve protected from
external impact.

6 - PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION TESTS

6.1 - The basic program for valve and actuator PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION TESTS shall comply
with section 307 of API Spec 17D.

6.2 - Valve and actuator assemblies (one model/size according to API Spec 6A F1.15) shall be qualified by a
cycling test in hyperbaric chamber to simulate the maximum life endurance with actual external pressure.
After the test, the equipment has to be disassembled for inspection and to check for severe damage or wear.
This test shall be performed in accordance to PETROBRAS Requirements for Qualification Tests of Subsea
Valve with Hydraulic Actuator - ET-540.32.27/98. If this test has already been performed without being
witnessed by PETROBRAS, the complete test report has to be sent for PETROBRAS representative
analysis, attached to the proposal. This test is supplier responsibility.

7 - QUALITY CONTROL

7.1 - MANUFACTURING

7.1.1 - Quality control requirements shall be according to API Spec 6A - PSL 3.

7.1.2 - Welding requirements shall be in accordance with section 500 of API Spec. 17D

7.2 - FACTORY ACCEPTANCE TESTS

Pressure integrity, test medium, acceptance criteria, pressure and temperature stabilisation according to
Appendix F of the API Spec. 6A.

The tests shall be made with the seating and sealing surfaces free from any sealant.

Supplier shall provide all equipment necessary to perform tests, including pumps and instruments.
At least the following tests shall be executed:

7.2.1 - Hydrostatic Body Pressure Testing:


The complete hydrostatic shell pressure tests shall be done prior to any other pressure testing, and all
pressure testing shall be performed prior to painting the valves This shell test of the valve shall be based on
ANSI B 16.34 Section 7. Minimum duration of hydrostatic test shell test shall be 6 hours.

7.2.2.- Gas Body Pressure Testing:


All valves shall be tested, before delivery with gas, according to PSL-4 - 7.5.9.5.7 - Gas Body Test -
Individual Equipment and 7.5.9.5.8 - Gas Seat Test - Valves, of the API Spec 6A.

7.2.3 - Seat test of the valve, on ANSI B 16.34 Section 7. The test pressure shall be not be less 1.1 times the
pressure rating at 38°C.

7.2.4 - Closure test of the valve, based on ANSI B 16.34 Section 7.

7.2.5 - Subsea Valve Actuator shall be tested in accordance with API Spec 17D Section 908.5b(3), as it
follows:
a) Hydrostatic Shell Test.
b) Actuator Seal Test.
c) Actuator Operational Test.

7.2.6 - The valve/actuator Assembly shall be tested in accordance with API Spec 17D section 908.5b(4).

7.2.7 - Determination of the actuating pressure, with (and without) pipeline differential pressure across the
valve body:
- acceptance criterion: max. pressure = 1500 psig.

7.2.8 - Actuator - valve speed test.
