LET US READ!!!

HALO – HALO SPECIAL

Jackie has been sick for one week. She wanted to go out of the house to

play but this was not possible. It was Monday and her mother had to go back to

work. Her mother gave Jackie some bitter medicine and told her,” Think of a

happy place Jackie”. What happy place did Jackie think of? Jackie thought of

her Lola Itang and her kitchen in the province. She thought about her Lola’s

cooking utensils and her delicious food. All of a sudden, her Lola came with a

plate of bibingka topped with cheese and salted egg. On Tuesday, Lola cooked

champorado for Jackie. It was chocolatey, sweet and milky. On Wednesday,

Lola baked ensaymada for Jackie. It was soft, sweet and creamy as it oozed

with butter and sugar. On Thursday, Lola fried some turon for Jackie. It was

sweet and crispy. Friday is the best day of all, haluhalo day. Lola Itang mixes all

sorts of nice things in her tall glass of haluhalo. At the bottom of the glass are

the red beans and the black beans. Then, come the sweetened slices of banana,

chewy nata de coco, red and green jelly gulaman, strong-smelling jackfruit,

spoonful of the purple ube jam, and a slice of leche flan. Later in the afternoon,

Mama comes home from the office and puts a thermometer in my mouth. She

takes it out and smiles. She put it back in my mouth once more to be sure again

she smiles. ”Good news,Jackie. You are well” says Mama. The medicines did a

great job.

bone which in turn, moves the third bone. The third bone touches the
membrane between the middle ear and the inner ear. When this
membrane vibrates, the fluid in the cochlea moves. The nerve cells then
send the message to the brain which tells you what you hear.

TRY TO DISCOVER

Graphic organizers are visual charts and tools used to represent and
organize a student’s knowledge or ideas. Graphic organizers are often used as
part of the writing process to help students map out ideas, plots, character
details and settings before beginning to write. As part of the reading process,
graphic organizers can help a student comprehend what he has read and make
comparisons. Graphic organizers can be used to sequence events, analyze
cause and effect, compare and contrast and develop concepts in detail.

The Bundle of Sticks

(Aesop)
An old man who was about to die called his sons to give them
some pairing advice. He ordered his servants to bring in a
bundle of sticks, and he told his eldest son, “Break it.”

The son strained and strained, but with all his efforts, he was
unable to break the bundle. The other sons also tried, but no
one of them was successful.

Untie the sticks,” said the father, “and each of you take a stick.”
When they had done so, he called out to them:
“Now break,” and each stick was easily broken. “Do you see what I mean?” asked
their father.
