The national building code of the Philippines or the presidential decree no.1096
was established on February 19, 1997 and hereby declared to be the policy of the
Philippines in safeguard life, health property and public welfare. Building code are
designed to guide and protect buildings and people from fire, earthquakes, windstorms
and other extreme events or natural phenomena.
National building code of the Philippines is consistent with all the principle in
consideration of our environment whether management or environmental control. It
provides minimum standards and requirements for all types of building and structures
for a regulation and control in/for location, designing quality of materials, construction,
use, occupancy and maintenance. It is a collection of rules and regulations for
appropriate control of design and construction of the building. Also, to prevent from
abusing the rights of the owner and abusing our natural habitat. We often refer to the
national building code of the Philippines to obtain the national standards and set the
basic requirements obtain by the law. Also, national building codes set consideration
and limit disaster and obtain the national standards and set the basic requirements
obtain by the law. Also, national building code tells us and one of the common but not
well practice here in the Philippines are the easement and setbacks of the building.
Setbacks and easement are required for a build to regulate air inside the property and
set privacy to other property adjacent to the site. Considering both occupant,
environment and natural diversity; national building code of the Philippines is relevant to
each and every person living in the society to know the proper and etiquetly use of
spaces in public nor private sites.
In general, they are a set of norms established by a governing body to govern the
construction of structures. The primary goal of building codes is to establish minimum
standards for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare in the construction and
use of buildings and structures.
The NBCP's objective is to guarantee the safety of inhabitants, the general health of
building users, and public health. Its objective is to govern building planning, design,
construction, occupancy, and maintenance in order to enhance building resilience
towards fire, flood, storm, earthquake, and other hazards.
The NBCP is the bible of architects, it is the book that’s tells designers what to do
and what not to do, it shows what considerations and restrictions in designing such
buildings. This book also explains different rules whereas it tackles different topics such
as how to work with permits, elaborating types of constructions designing with different
types of materials.
Designing buildings is not just sketching or drawing, designing also considers laws
and proper zoning, space planning and etc. A well crafted building will require architect
and allied professionals to create and plan a structure that will ease the users with their
everyday work ethics. Planning the perfect positioning on doors and windows, minimum
and standard designs that suits the user’s preference.
Designing is not just putting up spaces together, you also need to consider the type of
building your are designing, also you will also learn about restrictions in electrical,
mechanical, structural designs, choosing the right materials.
In the book also indicates on how to plan and design on how would you come up in
considering on where your lot is located, the wind direction, where the sun rises, from
what directions the monsoons coming from.
The NBCP also includes designing structures that concerning the fire code of the
Philippines which is RA. 9514, correct placements of windows, minimum standard of
passageways, doors and openings.
There is a lot of information’s in the NBCP that you can apply to your design, comply
with the minimum and design standards of the NBCP, so you wouldn’t have a problem
on applying for building permits and etc.
