. .
1. a) What are approximations made in reactance diagram?
b) Show how the performance of medium transmission line are determined using
nominal π method. Illustrate your answer with suitable phasor diagram.
c) Construct bus impedance matrix using building algorithm for the network shown in

2. a) Mention any two significant objectives of short circuit analysis.

b) Derive the expression for fault current for a single line-ground fault in a power system
faulted through fault impedance Zf .
c) Consider a single line diagram of power system as shown in figure.3. The transient
reactance of each part of the system is expressed in pu on a common 100 MVA
base. Assume that all generators are working on rated voltages, when a three phase
fault with impedance of j0.16 pu occurs at bus 5. Find the fault currents and bus
voltages.

ii) For the single line diagram shown in figure. 4, the ratings of each machine are 100
MVA, 11 kV with X1=X2=15%, X0=5% and Xn = 6%. Each three phase transformer
is rated 100 MVA, 11 kV/220 kV with leakage reactance of 9%. The reactances of
transmission line are X1=X2=10% and X0=10% on a base of 100 MVA, 220 KV.
Consider a single line to ground fault (on phase a) occurs on bus 4 of the system,
draw positive, negative and zero sequence networks of the system with
reactances marked in per unit and determine the fault current.

3. a) Compare any four points on Gauss-Seidel and Newton-Raphson methods of load

c) Figure.5 shows a single line diagram of a simple three bus system with generator
connected at bus 1 while the loads are connected at bus 2 and 3. The line
impedances are marked in pu on a 100 MVA base and the line charging suceptances
are neglected. The system data for a load flow solution are given in table.2. Assume
flat voltage start and find the voltages and bus angles at the buses 2 and 3 at the end
of first Gauss-Seidel iteration.
