generator bus kinetic energy is 2.5 MJ/MVA at rated speed. The generator transient reactance 1s X
= (.35 pu. Each transmission circuit reactance is 0.2 pu on 20 MVA base. Initially generator bus
voltage was 1.1 pu. and infinite bus voltage 1.0 pu. A3 phase short circuit occursat the mid point
of one of the transmission line at t =0 and it is cleared in 0.05 scc. Find the swing of the rotor upto
0.15. Taking time step 0.05sec. Use modified Euler’s method. 17

A 50 Hz synchronous machine is transferring power to infinite bus over a transmission 17


network. The transfer reactances in p.u. between machine and infinite bus are prefault:
0.65. During fault: 4,0 Post fault: 2,0 Prefault power transfer is 1.0 p.u. voltage of infinite
bus is 1.0 pu voltage behind transient reactance is 1.5 p.u inertia constant H = 3.5 p.u.
Determine variation of rotor angle and velocity versus time “t' using modified Euler's
method. Take time step of 0.05 sec. Fault is cleared in 0.1 sec. Carry out the calculations
upto three iterations.

7. a) Explain the significance of load flow studies. Give classification of buses for load flow 5

b) Derive the equation used to calculate real & reactive bus powers for load flow solution by 8
using Newton Raphson Method with YBUS .

c) Compare the performance of Gauss Siedel and Newton Raphson methods for load flow 7
solution.

8. A 25 MVA, 50 Hz synchronous generator circuit delivers 20 MW over a double circuit line 20


to an infinite bus. The generator bus kinetic energy is 2.52MJ / MVA at rated speed. The
generator transient reactance is Xd  0.35pu . Each transmission circuit reactance is 0.2 pu
on 25 MVA base. Initially the generator bus voltage was 1.1 pu & infinite bus voltage is 1.0
pu. A 3 phase short circuit occurs at the midpoint of one of the transmission lines at t  0
and it is cleared in 0.05 sec. Find the swing of rotor upto 0.15. Take time step of 0.05 sec.
Use modified Euler's method.

study.
b) A 4 pole, 60 MVA synchronous machine running at 1500 rpm delivers 55 MW power at an 15
infinite bus through transmission line. Generator has inertia constant of 4 MJ/MVA and
voltage behind transient reactance E  1.05 . Voltage at infinite bus is 1 0 P.U.
Find variation of  and  against time by modified Euler's method. Assume prefault
transmission system reactance 0.15 PU, during fault transmission system reactance 0.55 PU
and post fault transmission system reactance of 0.3 PU. Take time step of 0.05 sec. Assume
fault is cleared at 0.13 sec. Carry out iterations upto 0.15 sec. Plot  and  against time.
Direct axis transient reactance is 0.4 PU.
