Film review

1. Name of the film: The day after tomorrow

2. What type of film: Science fiction disaster film
3. Who wrote or directed: Roland Emmerich is a German film director, screenwriter and
producer, widely known for his science fiction films.
4. Setting: New York City
5. Characters: Both heroes, Sam and Jack Hall are extraordinary personalities, exceptionally
gifted in a family way. They are not leaders in their environment, but people listen to
them, men save the lives of others. As part of the film The Day After Tomorrow, Sam
becomes a hero in his own way, saving a small group of people from certain death. Sam is
not able to stop the cold snap with his hand, but to save the life of his beloved girl and a
dozen of the same unfortunates in the National Library of New York is quite able.
Separately, I would like to note also the unusual formation of the heroic image in the
person of Jack. In such difficult times for the Earth, when power and persuasion are
powerless, the paleoclimatologist helps the governments of states to understand what is
happening and save millions of lives. He even undertakes an incredible expedition in
search of his son and discovers other survivors. Such a hero does not show off muscles or
natural charm, but uses intelligence and perseverance. In general, in this film I was
amazed by the kindness of all the actors, there are not many scenes where someone thinks
only for his own good, but everyone tries to help those around them, as Lora helped a
policeman to get out of the car that was blocked in the water a French woman with a small
child translating into French for the victims to understand how to proceed. I also liked the
moment when Frank and Jason did not leave Jack alone and went together to look for Sam
knowing that they were sacrificing their life, also Sam’s mom who didn’t left an ill boy to
die alone in the hospital. All the actors were heroes to me. In the frame there are ordinary
people, and smart, and stupid, and marginal (for example, a homeless person with a dog).
But a large part of the plot is given to real professionals - meteorologists, climatologists,
polar explorers.

6. Global warming has begun on Earth. The melting of glaciers leads to the fact that the
temperature of the World Ocean changes - it drops sharply. The climate on planet Earth is
beginning to change. Cataclysms follow one another. A huge hail in Tokyo, lingering
downpours, numerous tornadoes in Los Angeles, snowy Delhi - all this is just the
beginning. Jack Hull is a climate scientist trying to warn the US government about an
impending giant climate catastrophe, a new glacial period, but no one wants to listen. He
says this because a chunk the size of Rhode Island has broken away from a glacier in
Antarctica. Meanwhile, astronauts observing the planet from an orbiting station transmit
frightening data. Three cyclones of enormous size are forming very quickly on the Earth's
surface. The centre of one of these cyclones proves fatal for the crews of three Royal
British Air Force helicopters, the paraffin in them freezes, the helicopters go down and the
men die from the instant cooling. When the sky is overcast, it begins to snow and the
temperature drops to critical levels, the US government decides to evacuate all those who
can still be saved to the south to Mexico. Jack's son is at this time in an area that is not
going to be evacuated. He, his friends and his girlfriend get stuck in New York, in the
half-flooded, after the huge tsunami that covered the city, the building of the National
Library. The son manages to tell Hull where to look for him before the phones fail. With
his gear, Hull sets out on a journey through the snow-covered desert - what is left of the
United States - and rescues his son from the clutches of a global climate catastrophe. And
the astronauts from the orbital station see that the hurricanes on Earth have subsided, the
cloudiness almost everywhere disappears altogether and the Northern hemisphere of the
planet covered with ice is spreading before their eyes.

7. Favourite character

My favorite character in this movie is Jack, because he is a very smart man who has
shown that he cares about people and really loves his family. I was captivated by the
moment when he went to the real death to reach his son and save him, not everyone
nowadays has the courage to do such deeds, even for his family. He is an example that
teaches us to cherish our moments with our loved ones and to love our family. Also his
intelligence is one of the most special.

8. The film teaches us that it is never too late to be better and nice, both with people and with
the environment, nature and everything around us. Our goodness is demonstrated by deeds
and feelings. Good you do good you get. Nowadays the world has forgotten to be
understanding, to help, to care and to love. The wickedness we offer will be rewarded at
some point in any form, even through global warming, as a real phenomenon that also
begins because of people's activity. It all starts with us, it means that we have to start the
change from ourselves and then improve the world around us.

9. I would recommend this movie to everyone, because after watching it you really ask
yourself a lot of questions and you start thinking. You see how the people in the movie
help each other and it's like you feel like helping someone too. This movie is an
inspiration to go out and make a change.
