PROPOSAL
CONCEPT
Wash. By Justin Vernon of Bon Iver is all about peoples desires to break away from society and
form their own opinion. For my music video I am adapting this idea and making it my own,
telling the story of a man who has appeared in the middle of nowhere in a desolate environment.
He is in a state of confusion as he cannot remember anything, we will follow him as he travels far
and wide as he learns to understand what it means to be human and how he interacts with the
world around him without this knowledge, remembering his past life as he tries tofind the people
of his past. Certain elements will be left open—ended for the audience to interpret and find their
own meaning in this music video as this is something commonly seen in indie-folk music videos
alike.
WHY AM I PRODUCING THIS PRODUCTION
The song I have chosen is one that I have always pictured in my head whilst listening to it, so
when it came around to creating a music video that was for the 40-60 year old audience, it was a
song that I thought would be fitting and that I myself have a connection with which is very
important to me as to create a music video that I am truly happy with it has to be to a song that I
can vividly picture and have some sort of a connection with. The brief I was given stated that I need
to produce a music video for people aged between 40-60-year-old, that cuts to the beat and
has a parallel story / edit, knowing this my basic idea for the Wash music video would work with
this brief. I also knew that creating a music video would improve my editing and cinematography
skills more than anything as they are both key aspects in creating a music video as you need to
capture the essenceof the song through the use of visuals and cutting to the beat will help improve
my editing as it is not something I have used much in past college projects.
DEADLINE
The final deadline for this production is the 9th of December but I will set myself small deadlines
to meet throughout in order to stay on top of the project. Also I will be attempting to finish at
least 5-7 days before in order to make changes forthe final deadline.
AUDIENCE PROFILE
In the brief it stated that my target audience will be those between the ages of 40-60 but I will not
be targeting to everyone between those ages rather a specific group of people in this age range.
As the music video is for a Bon Iver song the viewers are likely to be fans of Bon Iver themselves but
for those who are not, theproduction will not be targeted to a specific gender or sexuality and can
be enjoyed by all, in terms of class it may be more likely to be enjoyed by those in the technical
and established middle class who are more on the introverted side ofthings with openness to new
experience. Hobbies of people in my audience will ofcourse include music but also other hobbies
such as travelling and hiking as this is a theme seen throughout the music video and other indie-folk
music videos.

LOCATION RECCE
TYPE OF PLACE: NATIONAL PARK
LOCATION ADDRESS:
CHEDDAR
POST CODE:
BS27 3QF
PERMISSIONS:
For big budget productions a permit is required to film in certain areas so the national park can use the
money to fund conservation but as my project has such a minimal budget I cannot pay them.
SUITABILITY:
The area surrounding the gorge itself has all of the different environments that I need to film in so it is
incredibly suited for the music video as it is all about the nature being shown so going far away to find
somewhere best suited is incredibly important for my production.

LOCATION RECCE
TYPE OF PLACE:
House
LOCATION ADDRESS:
15 Norden Meadows
POST CODE:
SL6 4SB
PERMISSIONS:
No permission needed as it’s a private area.
SUITABILITY:
This location will be used for the inside flashback scenes along with the final scene where Jonah
returns home. As its sole purpose is to seem like a normal house it works very well along with it having
space for a piano which will be used and the tungsten lights give a nice warm hue which makes the
scene feel more homely.

LOCATION RECCE
TYPE OF PLACE:
Garden
LOCATION ADDRESS:
2A Altwood Rd, Maidenhead
POST CODE:
SL6 4PF
Bill – 07764154724
Sonia – 0793166521
PERMISSIONS:
I had to go ask the residents of the houses here to make sure it was ok to film here and they were all
happy to for me to film in the communal garden.
SUITABILITY:
As the garden to my actual house is under construction at the moment I have had to go ask my
neighbours to see if I would be able to film in their garden area and fortunately they were happy to
oblige. The scenes shot here will be flashback scenes in which Young Jonah will be seen walking around
the garden interacting with the trees and looking around ext. The garden is nice and big with a few
trees and bushes dotted around so should be good for what I am trying to accomplish.
