ii) Explain the relevance of this document. (10 Marks)


Scheming is essential in teaching because:
(a) In case of a transfer, the incoming teacher will take over easily. It enhances smooth
handing over in case of transfer of a teacher, thus ensuring continuity in teaching.
(b) You can allocate time for each topic according to its requirements. It enables the
teacher to budget for time wisely giving room for events and activities which might
interfere with the school calendar examples; public holidays, prize giving day and
outings. Also time is budgeted according to the level of difficulty of the content.
(c) You should be able to assemble the relevant teaching resources. It gives the teacher a
forward insight in teaching by enabling one to identify content, methods and relevant
instructional materials which are going to be used in the lesson. The teacher thus
plans the work ahead of time.
(d) At a glance, you can tell how much work is yet to be covered. It therefore checks the
teacher's pace of teaching.
(e) You can arrange the topics according to the level of difficulty. This makes teaching
both systematic and orderly.
(f) Schemes of work will guide you in writing a lesson plan. It enables the teacher to see
lessons in a broader perspective thus guiding one during lesson preparation.
