How To Serial Shell Into A JACE: Additional Information

To access a JACE via serial shell, one must put the jumper in the serial position with power off, open Hyperterminal on the connected computer and select the correct COM port and settings, power on the JACE while connected to Hyperterminal, log in, and update the network settings including IP address. Additional commands allow pinging hosts, telnet access, and resetting account credentials if needed.

How to Serial Shell into a JACE

1) Put jumper to serial shell with the power off


2) Start Hyperterminal
3) Give name to connection (i.e. JACE)
4) Select Com Port (2 or 3)
5) Speed to 115200
6) 8/NONE/1/Hardware then click OK
7) Cycle power while connected to hyperterminal
8) Enter username: tridium
9) Enter password: niagara
10) Choose (2) update network settings
11) Hostname: Whatever you want. No spaces.
12) Domain: Leave blank or put domain.com
13) Primary DNS Server: 192.168.1.(8 or 9) (that is ours)
14) Secondary - leave blank
15) Route: Gateway 192.168.1.1
16) IP Address: Physical IP address assigned to JACE Ethernet adapter number 1
17) Move jumper back to normal

Additional Information
 Ping Host - Can be used to ping mail server
 Telnet - Can be used to access the hyperterminal from a remote JACE. Can do the exact thing at a
distance as you can do locally
 Update Platform Account - Reset Username & password on the JACE if you are unable to get the old
username & password
 If you enable the second port, they have to be on completely different subnets
