Checklist OSCE Station 11 BLS (2019)

A healthcare provider performed BLS on a witnessed suspected cardiac arrest victim in an out-of-hospital setting. The provider checked for breathing and pulse in under 10 seconds, found none, and began high-quality chest compressions with a rate of 100-120 per minute and a depth of 5-6 cm. After 30 compressions the provider gave 2 breaths by opening the airway and providing adequate volume. This cycle of 30 compressions to 2 breaths was continued until an AED arrived or spontaneous circulation returned. The provider ensured advanced help was called and monitored the victim until more advanced care arrived.

PROCEDURAL SKILLS
1. GREET , introducing yourself and state can do CPR
2. Safe yourself and the victim from dangerous area.
3. Check for responsiveness
(tap gently the shoulders & shout to wake the victim up)
4. Call for advanced help.
(Scream for help, ask someone to call 118 and get AED)
5. Simultaneously in less than 10” seconds, Look for apneu or gasping, Check for definite carotid pulse.
(If unsure, consider as no breathing and no pulse)
If there’s no breathing or gasping and no pulse, do high quality CPR, with chest compression ventilation ratio 30:2 , if more than 1 rescuer, change
compressor every 5 cycles.
6. Chest compression : CPR: rate 100-120 x/mnt, depth 5-6 cm, full recoil, minimal interuption, interlocking hands position,
perpendicular to body’s victim, lower half of the sternum, 30x chest compression
7. Breathing support: open airway: check foreign body, head tilt, chin lift, jaw thurst. check servical injury (In suspect
cervical spine injury case, open airway with jaw thrust only ). Give 2 breathing support . Adequate volume shown by visible
chest rise, tight mouth-to-mouth/nose/mask seal . Breathing support after chest compression
8. Do CPR with compression ventilation ratio 30:2
9. If Able to start chest compression in : <30 seconds = 3, >30-60 seconds = 2, >1-3 minutes = 1, >3 minutes = 0
10. After 5 cycles check breathing, check pulse response.
11. If AED hasn’t arrived yet, continue high quality CPR.
12. Every completing 5 cycles evaluate victim check breathing, check pulse, do until advanced team arrives or ROSC
13. If the victim ROSC/Return of spontaneous circulation (have breathing and pulse), place the victim in the recovery
position (Remained unresponsive but regained normal breathing and effective circulation)
14. Ensure advanced help is on its way and check victim’s condition periodically (every 2 minute) until advance team
arrives.
