Unit 12 Notebook Work Ex 12.3

This document contains a math notebook entry from a 5th grade student. The entry covers volume, including definitions and formulas for finding the volume of cubes, cuboids, and other objects. Examples are provided for calculating volumes and determining how many smaller objects can fit inside a larger container. Key points covered include defining volume as the space occupied by a solid object and providing the formulas for calculating volume of cubes and cuboids based on their dimensions of length, width, and height. Practice problems are assigned for students to complete independently involving applying volume formulas to real-world examples.

UNIT- 12 PERIMETER, AREA AND VOLUME

VOLUME
The amount of space occupied by a plane figure is called its AREA. Similarly the
amount of space occupied by a solid is called it VOLUME .
VOLUME OF A CUBOID = LENGTH X BREADTH X HEIGHT
LENGTH OF THE CUBOID = VOLUME OF CUBOID ÷ (BREADTH X HEIGHT)
BREADTH OF THE CUBOID = VOLUME OF CUBOID ÷ (LENGTH X HEIGHT)
HEIGHT OF THE CUBOID = VOLUME OF CUBOID ÷ (LENGTH X BREADTH)

VOLUME OF A CUBE = SIDE X SIDE X SIDE

The unit of volume is cubic centimetre

(cu cm) OR cubic metre (cu m)

Exercise 12.3 (Pg. 110)

Que: 1. / 2. ====== PLEASE DO IN TEXTBOOK ONLY =====
3. Find the VOLUME of a cube whose edge is

b) Edge = 13 cm c) Edge = 40 cm
Volume of a cube = side x side x side
Do yourself
= 13 cm x 13 cm x 13 cm
= 2,197 cu cm
Ans: Volume of the cube = 2,197 cu cm
Ques 4. ====== PLEASE DO IN TEXTBOOK ONLY =====
Solve the following:
2. A book measures 20 cm x 15 cm x 6 cm.
What would be the volume of a stack of 6 such books?
Solution:
Length of a book = 20 cm Now as volume of a book = 1800 cu cm
Breadth of a book = 15 cm
Height of a book = 6 cm

Volume of the book = l x b x h Volume of 6 books = 1800 cu cm x 6

= 20 cm x 15 cm x 6 cm = 10,800 cu cm
= 1,800 cu cm
Volume of a book = 1,800 cu cm
Answer: Volume of a stack of 6 books =10,800 cu cm

3. A matchbox measures 4 cm x 3 cm x 1 cm. How many such matchboxes can be
kept in a carton of dimension 15 cm x 12 cm x 8 cm?

Solution: Matchbox Carton

Length of a matchbox = 4 cm Length of a carton = 15 cm

Breadth of the matchbox = 3 cm Breadth of the carton = 12 cm
Height of the matchbox = 1 cm Height of the carton = 8 cm

Volume of the = l x b x h Volume of the carton = l x b x h

Matchbox = 4 cm x 3 cm x 1 cm = 15 cm x 12 cm x 8 cm
= 12 cu cm = 1,440 cu cm

Volume of the matchbox = 12 cu cm Volume of the carton = 1,440 cu cm

No. of matchboxes can be kept in the carton = 1440 cu cm ÷ 12 cu cm
= 120 matchboxes.
Answer: 120 Matchboxes can be kept in a carton.

4. A wooden block measure 25 cm x 20 cm x 30 cm.

How many cubical blocks of VOLUME 30 cu cm can be cut from it?
Do
correction in
T.B Volume
= 30 cu cm

Solution: Wooden Block Cubical Block

Length of a wooden block = 25 cm Volume of a cubical block = 30 cu cm

Breadth of the wooden block = 20 cm
Height of the wooden block = 30 cm

Volume of the wooden block = l x b x h

= 25 cm x 20 cm x 30 cm
= 15,000 cu cm
Volume of the wooden block=15,000 cu cm Volume of the cubical block= 30 cu cm

No. of Cubical Blocks can be cut from the Wooden Block= 15000 cu cm ÷ 30 cu cm
= 500 cubical blocks.
Answer: 500 Cubical blocks can be cut from the Wooden Block.

6. How many bricks each 20 cm long 8 cm wide and 7 cm thick will be required to build
a wall 20 m long 2 m high and 35 cm thick?

Solution: Bricks Wall

Length of a bricks = 20 cm Length of a wall = 20 m = (20X100) = 2000 cm

Breadth of the bricks = 8 cm Breadth of the wall = 35 cm
Height of the bricks = 7 cm Height of the wall = 2 m = (2X100) = 200 cm

Volume of the brick = l x b x h Volume of the wall = l x b x h Do yourself

Volume of a brick = cu cm Volume of the wall = cu cm

No. of bricks required to make a wall =
