2 Introduction
This document describes the High Capacity VDSL2 over POTS Line Termination (LT)
unit - version R (NVLT-R) that is used with Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS)
networks.
The NVLT-R:
• Is a line termination unit for the Flexible Density (FD) Intelligent Services Access
Manager (ISAM).
• Can be used in the following shelves:
• a 7302 ISAM FD subrack
• a 7330 ISAM Fiber To The Node (FTTN) FD subrack
• a 7356 ISAM Fiber To The Building (FTTB) Shelf-Based Remote Expansion Module
(SB-REM).
• Provides termination on 72 ADSL, ADSL2plus, ADSL2 or VDSL2 lines.
• Provides multi-mode services over POTS (VDSL2 US0 Type A, ADSL2+/ADSL2/
ADSL Annex A).
• Provides multi-mode services compatible with ISDN CPEs without ISDN baseband
service overlay (VDSL2 US0 Type B, ADSL2+/ADSL2/ADSL Annex B).
• Support of ADSL2/ADSL2+ Annex M
• Meets ETSI specifications.
• Produces a maximum output level per line:
• 18.6 dBm in VDSL2 Profile 8B mode
• 19.8 dBm in ADSLx mode.
• Supports downstream forwarding rates of mixed unicast and multicast traffic of up to
2.5 Gbps.
• Supports an MTU size up to 1580 bytes.
• Has backpanel pinning compatible with the FD backpanel.
• Supports 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D, 12A, 12B, and 17A VDSL2 profiles.
• Low power consumption
• Can be used in the following operation conditions:
• -5°C to +45°C ambient temperature range, in CO environment with multiple 7302
ISAM FD subracks
• -40°C to +70°C ambient temperature range, when used in stand-alone 7302 ISAM FD
subracks, 7330 ISAM FTTN FD subracks and 7356 ISAM FTTB SB-REM
• Has line protection.
• Can be hot inserted or extracted.
• Is compliant to the regulations of Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
• Is compliant to safety standards IEC / EN 60950-1 and AS/NZS 60950-1, provided
that it is installed, maintained and used according the relevant installation
instructions.
4 General Description
Subscriber Interfaces
The NVLT-R is a line termination board of the ISAM system. It contains 72 lines per
board, which are configurable as ADSL/ADSL2plus/ADSL2/VDSL2.
Bonding
The NVLT-R supports board-level bonding and is designed for the following transfer
mode capabilities:
• ADSL/ATM
• VDSL2/PTM
Note: for an overview of the supported transfer modes, see the Product Information
document of your system.
Deployment
The NVLT-R meets ETSI requirements and is intended for CO and remote deployment
in ISAM Flexible Density (FD) equipment.
The NVLT-R must be mounted in an LT slot of a subrack. The following figures show
the position of the NVLT-R in:
• a 7302 ISAM FD subrack (CO deployment); see Figure 1.
• a 7330 ISAM FTTN FD subrack (CO or remote deployment); see Figure 2.
• a 7356 ISAM FTTB SB-REM (remote deployment); see Figure 3.

Power and Clock
The OBCM is the core module of the control plane and acts as general CPU towards
all components on the LT board. The OBCM also takes care of management plane
data manipulation (for example, traffic flow handling (initialisation and termination),
IGMP processing (IP multicast), LT-NT communication and so on).
• OBC Memory Module (OMM):
Dedicated DDR2 memory subsystem for OBC.
• Control and Management Module (CMM):
The CMM CPLD contains the LT board's glue logic. It also expands the general
purpose I/O and local bus capabilities of the OBCM and has a number of support
functions.
• MoDeM Module (MDM):
The MDM is the ADSL/ADSL2plus/ADSL2/VDSL2 physical part of the LT board
and consists of 72 lines.
• ClocK Module (CLKM):
The CLKM generates all clocks required by the components and interfaces on the
board. It also distributes the Network Timing Reference (NTR) to the xDSL PHYs.
• PoWeR Module (PWRM):
The PWRM generates all voltages required by the components on the board from the
battery power distribution on the backplane. It also guarantees that the LT board is
hot-insertable without affecting the operational behavior of any other board in the
system.
