Service Data Sheet

Description

During this expert service, ExxonMobil Industrial Lubricants

field engineers will:

• Inspect, report, and document the condition of the critical plant

hydraulic systems

• Use inspection data to establish the optimum time to replace critical

hydraulic components such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, filters,
and lubricants

• Recommend maintenance practices to help improve system reliability

Application

ExxonMobil Industrial Lubricants field engineers work with local plant maintenance and engineering personnel to:

• Develop a schedule of periodic hydraulic system inspections

• Visually inspect critical system components and breather condition and identify leaks

• Record reservoir oil temperatures and obtain system oil samples for on-site or laboratory analysis

• Evaluate system fluid cleanliness levels

• Compare the results with previous inspection data to identify changes and trends

• Prepare a formal report that documents hydraulic system condition and recommendations

• Document customer benefits delivered (e.g., maintenance savings, improved reliability, extension of lubricant life, etc.)

• Distribute and present the completed report to plant management

Potential Benefits

Potential benefits could include the following:

• Reduced unscheduled downtime

• Increased production of acceptable parts

• Lower maintenance labor costs

• Reduced lubricant consumption

• Reduced level of hydraulic system parts replacement

• More effective maintenance control

• Safety and environmental improvements

Deliverables Safety, Health, and Environment

Prepare an Engineering Service Report or letter that ExxonMobil Industrial Lubricants field engineers:
outlines the condition of the hydraulic systems inspected,
• Are attuned to the hazards of handling, storage, and use of
recommended actions to improve system or component
petroleum products
performance/reliability, and estimated value of the service
rendered to the customer. • Coordinate efforts through designated plant personnel

• Strictly observe the site’s safety rules and ExxonMobil’s

safety practices
Common Opportunity Areas
• Verify equipment electrical and mechanical lockout, proper
• Contaminated lubricant (solvents, wrong oils, water, dirt,
tagging, and potential explosion hazards prior to working on
metalworking fluids)
or inspecting equipment
• Hydraulic system temperature too high or too low
• Provide recommendations to help reduce the hazards
• Aeration of oil (foaming) associated with spill, leakage, and fire

• Shock loading in system (may require design changes or • Provide applicable product safety data (material safety data
use of accumulators) sheets) for the lubricants supplied by ExxonMobil

• Hydraulic pressures too high • Are available to support company-required safety training

• Restriction in pump suction (cavitation or aeration) • For ExxonMobil Planned Engineering Service (PES)
customers, work with plant personnel to integrate safety and
• Inadequate filtration or maintenance practices
health parameters into program objectives
• Leakage rates too high; low oil levels

• Use of wrong lubricants
