1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure safe working conditions during
excavation job.

Operational Supervisory
1 General: Contractor Construction
Before work commences for excavations, Engineer/
following actions shall be initiated: In charge
Stability of the ground shall be checked;
Position of all underground services such as
sewers, water pipes, and electric cables shall
be identified;
In case there is danger gas, water electrical and
other public utilities shall be shut off or
disconnected;
If underground pipes and conductors cannot
be removed or disconnected, they shall be
fenced off or otherwise protected against
damage.
2 During Work: Contractor Construction

A competent person nominated by the Site
In charge
In charge shall examine excavation at least
once every day prior to start of shift.
Sides of the excavation shall be thoroughly
inspected:
o after an interruption of work of more than
one day;
o after every blasting operation;
o after an unexpected fall of excavated
face;
o after substantial damage to supports;
o after heavy rain or storm;
