4 Details
4.1 Symptoms
We have informed and requested to use the transponder of JHS-183 (NTE-183-2) when replacing the transponder
for JHS-182 (NTE-182), because of the discontinued production of AIS transponder (NTE-182), (Technical
Information : JD-1390-19)
However, malfunction may occurs when JHS-182 is equipped with NTE-183-2.
The status displayed on the AIS controller (NCM-779) for UTC CLOCK will be "UTC CLOCK: LOST", and
"INT GPS: NG SAT.RCV." may be displayed as a result of self-diagnosis.

4.2 Information or countermeasures


1) When this malfunction occurs, please set the command for countermeasure to NCM-779 according to the
attached documents.

2) Software for solving this malfunction will be released at the end of February 2020. Software upgrade
procedures and details will be included in the following software release technical information.

How to enter a command for measures of UTC CLOCK LOST issue for NTE-183-2

1. Preparing
1.1. Prepare the followings:
- Personal computer (OS: Windows 7/10,
Hard disk free space: 10MBytes or more,
COM port (RS-232C) : built-in port or USB-COM adapter etc.
Terminal emulator such as Tera Trem must be installed.
Operation has been confirmed with PuTTY,
but Tera Term is recommended because CR+LF can be sent easily.)
- D-SUB 9-pin straight cable (9-pin male connector and 9-pin female connector)

1.2. Open the rear cover of Maintenance connector of the AIS controller.

1.3. Connect the D-SUB 9-pin straight cable between the Maintenance connector of the AIS controller and COM
port (RS-232C) of the personal computer.

2. How to enter a command
2.1. Turn the AIS controller on with maintenance mode.
- To turn the AIS controller on with maintenance mode, press and hold the MENU key and the PWR key until
characters appear on the AIS controller display.

2.2. In the Main Menu, select [6.FIELD MAINTENANCE] - [6.SOFTWARE UPDATE] - [TRANSPONDER
UPDATE].
Select[ENT] on the bottom of the screen, then confirm that the following message is displayed immediately.

SOFTWARE UPDATE

[PLEASE RESTART AFTER


SOFTWARE UPDATE]

PRESS AND HOLD [PWR]+[OFF]

2.3. If any other applications are operating, close them. Run terminal emulator.
After selecting the serial connection, select the port connected.

2.4. Set baud rate, data, parity, etc.

2.5. To send the command as CR + LF, set as follows for Tera Term.
Set up ⇒ Terminal ⇒ Transmit ⇒ CR+LF

There is no corresponding setting in PuTTY.


When using PuTTY, press “ Ctrl “ + “ M “ and “ Ctrl “ + “ J “ instead of the Return key when sending
commands.

2.6. After the setting is completed, a sentence is displayed on the terminal emulator.

If the sentence is not displayed, check the following:


・The AIS controller is on the update screen.
・The D-SUB 9-pin cable or USB cable is connected.
・COM port setting is correct.

2.7. Send the following command with terminal emulator. In the case of Tera Term, copy the following command
(no line break is required). Then you can send the command by right-clicking and pasting it on Tera Term
and pressing the Return key.
In the case of PuTTY, press “ Ctrl ” + “ M “ and “ Ctrl “ + “ J “ instead of Retune key. (No line break is
required)

2.8. Confirm that the response command “$PJRC,92,11,1,21,CCA707JZ,RM3.16*56” is displayed on the


terminal emulator.
If the response command can't be confirmed, review the settings and resend the command.
If you miss the response command, resend "$ PJRC,92,01,1,21*33" and check the response command.
The command "$PJRC,92,01,1,21*33" can be sent any number of times.

2.9. Close the terminal emulator.


2.10. Turn the AIS controller off.
2.11. Disconnect the D-SUB 9-pin cable from the Maintenance connector on the rear panel of the AIS controller.
2.12. Tighten the screws to fix the Maintenance connector cover on the rear panel of the AIS controller.
