‘Task 1: To study the basic use of an Op-Amplifier
An operational amplifier or op-amp is a linear device that has all the properties required for nearly ideal
DC-coupled voltage amplification and are therefore used extensively in signal conditioning, filtering or
to perform mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, integration and differentiation. The
different types of Op-Amp IC's are LM741, LM747, LM358, LM339, LM324, TLO71, TL082,
3140. The most popular op-amp IC is the LM741, which comes in a standard eight-pin DIP package.

In order to function, the op-amp must be connected to an external power supply. Since we want to
produce both positive and negative output voltages, we need apply both positive and negative voltages
from an external power supply. Vis usually in the range from 12 to 15 volts. For a LM741, the
nominal values are +¥,,.=18 V (Pin 7) and ~V,..= -15 V (Pin 4). If negative output voltage is not
requited we can apply ~V..= 0 V/Ground (Pin 4).
