Design Ladder Diagram For Traffic Module: Lab No. 08

The document describes creating a ladder logic program for a three-way traffic light sequence. It provides background on typical traffic light sequences and colors. The objective is to program a FATEK PLC to control a three-way intersection with lights that blink yellow for 5 seconds at start up or if an emergency switch is engaged before following the normal light sequence.

Design Ladder Diagram for Traffic Module

Name: _____________________________
Registration # _______________________
Objective:
 To create a ladder logic for Three-Ways Traffic Lights Sequence
Equipment and Components:
 FATEK FBS 14 MA
 FATEK WinProladder Software
 PC
Introduction:
Traffic lights are signaling devices positioned at road intersections, pedestrian crossings, and other
locations to control flows of traffic. Traffic lights alternate the right of way accorded to users by
illuminating lamps or LEDs of standard colors (red, amber [yellow], and green) following a
universal color code. In the typical sequence of color
phases:
 The green light allows traffic to proceed in the
direction denoted, if it is safe to do so and there is
room on the other side of the intersection.
 The amber light warns that the signal is about to
change to red. A phase during which red and yellow
are displayed together indicates that the signal is
about to change to green.
 A flashing amber indication is a warning signal. In
the United Kingdom, a flashing amber light is used
only at pelican crossings, in place of the combined
red–amber signal, and indicates that drivers may
pass if no pedestrians are on the crossing.
 The red signal prohibits any traffic from proceeding.
 A flashing red indication requires traffic to stop and
then proceed when safe (equivalent to a stop sign). Fig: 8.1 Traffic Light Sequence

Task:

Create a ladder logic in Fatek WinProladder software for traffic light sequence for three-way path.
When the traffic lights are turned ON yellow lights of all roads should blink for 5 secs then the
sequence should begin. When emergency switch is turned On yellow lights of all roads began to blink.
Procedure:
 Run WinProladder software and insert created Ladder Logic in Fig 8.2.
 Use button M0 as on/off switch and use an Emergency stop button to the sequence.
 Define some buttons to indicate the Road 1, Road 2 and Road 3 lights so that anyone can observe
the sequence of lights easily.
 Use a logic to blink yellow lights for 5sec when On/ Off switch is turned ON.
 Use a logic to blink yellow lights when Emergency switch is turned ON.
 Use a logic for Road 1 lights.
 Use a logic for Road 2 lights.
 Use a logic for Road 3 lights.
