Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Plane and Solid Geometry I

This lesson plan outlines a geometry lesson on circles for first year students. The lesson objectives are for students to identify circle parts, solve problems using circle theorems, and calculate circumference and area. The lesson will begin with an activity where students match terms to diagrams of circles. Sample problems will then be worked through on the board. Finally, students will complete an assessment with problems identifying circle terms and calculating values based on given measurements.

Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Plane and Solid Geometry I-BSED MATHEMATICS Blk 2

CIRCLES
Prepared by: Angelica L. Herawon

I. Objectives
At the end of the period, the students will be able to:
1. identify the parts of a circle.
2. solve problems and determine the measurement of angles by the use of the
different methods and theorems.
3. solve the circumference and area of a circle.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Circles
Skills: Distinguishing, solving, analysis
Values Integration: Participation and Collaboration
Reference: Plane Geometry with Basic Trigonometry (Book)
Mathematics Learner’s Module
Instructional Materials: Visual aid, Marker, Bond paper, Scotch tape, Handouts,
Calculator
Year and Course to be taught: I- BSED MATHEMATICS Block 2

III. Procedure
A. Learning Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Classroom Management
 Checking of the Attendance
B. Review
 The teacher will give a review regarding of the past lesson by asking some
questions.
C. Motivation
 The teacher will show these images to the students by using a visual aid
and let them simply identify the following:

Based from the student’s response, introduce the topic and the topic’s
objective.
D. Lesson Proper
a.) Activity
 Before the proper discussion of the teacher, the students will be group into
two groups. After having their group, they will pick a word on the box. The
task is to match those words to the circles drawn in the Manila paper for
them to guess the parts and other terminologies related to circle. After
answering the first activity, they will try solving two given word problems.
WORDS IN THE BOX
Diameter Radius Secant Point of Inscribed Sector
tangency Angle
Chord Circumference Tangent Central Arc Intercepted
Angle Arc

7.

2. 8.

3. 9.

4. 10.

5. 11.

6. 12.
b.) Proper Discussion
 The teacher will discuss the lesson and ask some question to students
after the discussion.
E. Application
 Board Work

The teacher will give problems to be solve by the students in the white
board.
F. Generalization
 The teacher will let the students identify the methods or the theorems
used in the problem they’ve solved in the board.

IV. Evaluation
 The teacher will give a quiz to the students.
I. Identify the following:
1.It is a line that passes through any points of the circle.
2. It is the length of the perimeter of the circle.
3. A line that touches a circle at only one point.
4. It is the distance from the center to any point of the circle.
5. It is a chord that passes through the center of the circle. It is the
longest among all the chords of the circle.

II. Find the following

a. Angle BEC A 100 Given:
b. DC B E AD = 150
c. Angle ADC 150 40 AB = 100
d. Angle DAB C BC = 40

III. Problem Solving

 What is the circumference of a circle if its diameter is 20 inches?
 What is the area of a circle if its radius is 5 inches?

V. Assignment
 The teacher will let the students copy the assignment in their notebook and tell
them to write it on a ½ sheet of yellow paper which will be pass on the next day.

Solve:
1. Find the circumference of the circle with a diameter of 8 inches.
2. Find the circumference of the circle with a radius of 10 inches.
3. What is the area of the circle if its circumference is 50 meters?
