Daily Lesson Plan in Science V1

The lesson plan outlines precautions to take before, during, and after earthquakes. It discusses earthquake preparedness like conducting drills, identifying safe spots indoors, and storing emergency supplies. During quakes, it recommends staying under sturdy furniture and away from windows, doors, and exterior walls. Aftershocks may damage partially collapsed buildings, so it advises staying away from damaged areas until authorities give the all clear. The lesson includes classroom activities like role playing emergency scenarios and matching precautions to the preparedness phase.

III. Instructional Procedure

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
What is an earthquake?
What do we called earthquake, cause by shifting or movement of crustal plates?
Cause by volcanic activity?
What is the device that used by scientist that measures the movement of the
Earth’s crust?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Show a picture of a place when an earthquake occur.

What are the different effects of an earthquake?

What is the cause of tectonic earthquake? Volcanic earthquake?
What would you do if an earthquake happens to our school? Why?

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson Integratio

What are the tips that you gather in the video clip?
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
When the Earth’s crust shakes violently, changes in land features occur. A very
strong earthquake can cause some parts of the land to open up, creating wide chasms.
It may also give rise to some parts of the soil to erode or crack. The falling of loose rocks
along the mountainside is called a landslide.
Earthquakes occur very suddenly therefore one should be prepared at all times.

Precautionary Measures in Case of an Earthquake.

BEFORE:
1. Perform an earthquake drill
2. Familiarize yourself with safety exist in any buildings you safety in.
 Identify relatively strong parts of the building where you can take refuge
during an earthquake: door jambs, elevator shafts, sturdy table.
 Learn to use fire extinguishers, first aid kits, alarms and emergency exits.
3. Store flammable materials in safe place.
4. Always keep a flashlight ready.

DURING:
1. Keep calm during earthquakes.
2. Stay under a sturdy table when an earthquake occurs.
3. Stay away from stairs or elevators.
4. Avoid rushing to the exit when inside a movie theater or any crowded place.
5. Stay away from cliffs, steep, slopes, powerlines, buildings and trees.
When you are INSIDE a structurally sound building or home…STAY THERE!
 If possible quickly open the door for exit.
 Duck under a sturdy desk or table, and hold on to it, or protect your head
with your arms.
 Stay away from glass windows, shelves, cabinets and other heavy objects.
 Beware of falling objects. Be alert and keep your eyes open.
If you’re OUTSIDE ..move to an open area!
 Stay away from trees. Powerlines, posts and concrete structures.
 Move away from steep slopes which may be affected by landslides.
 If you’re near the shore and feel an earthquake, especially if it’s too
strong, move quickly to higher grounds. Tsunamis might follow.
If you’re in a moving vehicle, STOP and get out! Do not attempt to cross bridges,
overpass or flyovers which have been damage.

AFTER:
1. Stay away from condemned buildings or those with cracks. Don’t enter partially
damaged building, strong aftershocks may cause these to collapse.
2. Avoid touching live electric wires of fallen electric posts.
3. Listen to the radio for any developments. Obey public safety precautions.

Our country is an active generator of earthquakes. It is observed to have hosted

at least five imperceptible to perceptible earthquake a day.
Big quakes maybe generated any day in our country. It is a must that we
know what to do before, during and after an earthquake. Knowing by heart the
precautionary measures suggested by PHIVOLCS on what to do before, during
and after an earthquake, we may decrease or avoids some injuries or death when
this natural occurrence happens.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

R.A.F.T (Role, Audience, Format, Topic)
Reporting
The group will act as News Team that will inform viewers how they are going to
be prepared before an earthquake (ex. Act out Drop, Cover and Hold and
preparing the Disaster Kit)
GROUP DURING
Role Playing
The group will act,
 while they are busy studying at school when suddenly an earthquake
occur. What are you going to do to stay safe?
 While they are walking outside the buildings when suddenly an
earthquake occur.
 While they are driving inside a car when suddenly an earthquake occur.
GROUP AFTER
R.A.F.T (Role, Audience, Format, Topic)
One will act as leader of community (role) that will announce to his/her
people(audience), “what they are going to do after an earthquake occur
“(Format) to stay safe and sound. (Topic) Precautionary measures after an
earthquake.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living Integratio
