1. This is part of a letter you received from your English friend.

I’m travelling to your country during Tet holiday. Could you give me some information
about it? What do people often do? What do children receive? Can you tell me some
dishes for Tet?

Write a letter to respond to your friend. You do not need to include your name or
addresses. Your response will be evaluated in terms of Task Fulfillment, Organization,
Vocabulary and Grammar. 

- Activities people do on Tet:

Before Tet:

+ shop for new clothes, furniture

+ decorate their homes with kumquat trees and peach flowers.

+ make offerings to our ancestors

+ go to watch the fireworks

+ go to pagodas to pray for their good luck, heath and business for the upcoming year.

+ visit their grandparents, close relatives and friends and give them the best wishes.

- What children receive on Tet:  new clothes and lucky money

- Some dishes for Tet: make/ cook some traditional dishes (Banh Chung, Spring rolls)

1. Read the following extract about unemployment

Today, more school leavers have difficulty in finding jobs. In the UK, recent survey
findings show that one million people aged 16-25 are out of work, even though many of
them have been looking for jobs for a long time. Unemployment among young people is
considered one of the most serious social problems.

Discuss the effects of rising unemployment among young adults and suggest some
solutions.

Effects of unemployment

-  Unemployment causes frustration and stress to the unemployed.

-  The jobless might forget knowledge and skills they have learned at school.

2. Read the following extract about overpopulation in big cities

“54 per cent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected
to increase to 66 per cent by 2050. Projections show that urbanization combined with the
overall growth of the world’s population could add another 2.5 billion people to urban
populations by 2050, with close to 90 percent of the increase concentrated in Asia and
Africa, according to a new United Nations report launched today.”

-  Overpopulation leads to environmental problem like air, water, noise.

-  Being too overpopulated causes social issues (higher unemployment rate, crime
rate)
