INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. Write your name, register number and class in the spaces at the top of this page.
2. Answer questions 1 - 11 before attempting question 12 (Bonus Question).
3. Write your answers and working on the separate writing paper provided.
4. Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.
5. Give non-exact numerical answers correct to 3 significant figures, or 1 decimal
place in the case of angles in degrees, unless a different level of accuracy is
specified in the question.

3. A manufacturing firm delivers bottles of sunscreen to 3 different stores.
The manufacturing firm charges all stores a standard cost price for each
bottle of sunscreen. The protection level of sunscreen, the number of bottles
per delivery, the number of deliveries made to each store over one month and
the cost price per bottle of sunscreen are shown in the table below.

4. Answer the whole of this question on the INSERT provided.
The diagram shows part of the curve y = −x 2 + 3x .
(i) By drawing a tangent, find the gradient of the curve at the
point (1, 2). [2]
(ii) Using the graph, find the range of values of x that satisfy the
inequality x 2 − 3x + 0.5 ≤ 0 . [2]

7. Joyce has 20 ribbons. 11 of the ribbons are blue and the remaining ribbons are
either purple or red.
(a) She picks two ribbons with replacement. Calculate the probability
that she picks exactly one blue ribbon. [2]
(i) What is the probability that only the first ribbon is blue? [2]
(ii) The probability of the first ribbon being red and the second
one being purple is 1 . Given that there are more red than
19
purple ribbons, what is the probability of picking two
ribbons of the same colour? [4]
8. In the diagram, the rectangle ABCD represents the vertical face of a wall.
The bottom of the wall, AB, runs from West to East, and is at ground level.
A snail is on the ground at Y.
∠BAY = 52°, ∠AYB = 100° and BY = 31 m.
(i) Find the bearing of Y from B. [2]
(ii) Calculate the length of AB. [2]
