POWER OF LANGUAGE ESSAY 1

The Power of Language Essay

POWER OF LANGUAGE ESSAY 2

The power of language is very important for children in the 21st century. I think with this

course it has really showed me the importance of grammar. I used to remember how frustrated I

would be because I would lose points due to the fact that I would make grammar mistakes. I used

to think how unnecessary this was because “who cares if its just a little bit off or wrong” but

throughout this course I learned that it actually was important. The fact that my teachers used to

push for us to make less grammar mistakes it wasn’t to be mean but to help us become better

educated students.

Grammar is important in order to be good students but not only that it is important in

order to communicate effectively. I always think of this when I am writing an email to someone

at my job or when I am helping to write a lesson plan sample for the teacher I work with. In

order to communicate our thoughts effectively and clearly it is important to use proper grammar

to help with these situations. I also realized just how important it is when it comes to school. The

way you communicate through your writing is important in order to appropriate for a college

level class. I know it an seem frustrating to get points taken away for grammar mistakes but we

are here to learn from the mistakes we make.

I think as time has been evolving one thing that I have personally dealt with in my

life is the way technology is affecting our grammar. I think this is such an important topic for me

because in our generation and times today technology has begun to be a big part of our

education. In school students starting in the first or second grade get chrome books to take home

in order to do homework assignments online. Now a lot of the assignments are based online

instead of doing them on paper. “Social media or electronic communication technology has

revolutionized the process of composing English writing and speech. Communication technology

reflects a several number of electronic communication forms. “

I think this plays a big impact on the student’s grammar because they don’t only depend on their

smarts in order to complete assignments, they get help from the computers.

I think there can be a positive to technology and grammar but it also comes with a

negative. For example, one positive that today’s technology help the students have correct

grammar with autocorrect that is provided in the computers. A negative to technology is that it

can make students lazy because they become dependent on their computers or writing programs

to help with their grammar. This gave me a great idea as to how I as an educator would

incorporate technology and teaching grammar. One way I would incorporate it would be to ask

students to create their essay using word but turning off the autocorrect language feature, in

doing this the computer wouldn’t pick up in the grammar mistakes they have made. Then once

the original paper is turned in, I would ask them to turn on the feature in order for them to see the

grammar mistakes they made. I wouldn’t ask them to revise the paper but to reflect on the

mistakes they have made and why they feel they have made these mistakes. I think as an

educator this will help me understand which students need help in certain parts and it will also

open the students eye to the mistakes they make in a positive way. This method can help the

students better prepare for the developmental language skills in the 21 st century.

I think for the ethical and spiritual values of the students in the 21st century should be

focusing on fairness, truthfulness, and responsibility. For example, when it came to being fair it

makes think when you have to do group projects it’s important for students to understand they

have to be fair and complete their parts of the assignment. This will teach students to be fair with

their fellow peers. The second value truthfulness could help the students understand about

plagiarism and making sure they aren’t using material without giving credit. This doesn’t only

included work that has been published but also work that they may have seen from their fellow

peers. The last and final value that I found important is responsibility. I think its easy for students

to come up with excuses as to why they didn’t finish this assignment or the other but its

important to understand they have to be responsible for themselves and their work. The core

values would be important for students in the 21st century.

As time goes on the English language changes and develops, in order for students to

accept and grow with this change we as educators must grow and change as well. I know it can

be challenging especially if we have learned to teach certain materials certain way but we must

be able to adapt and grow in order for our students to do the same. Teaching our students about

values when it comes to education it can help keep them honest and passionate about their work.

Incorporating new technology students enjoy can also help learning seem fun and engaging. I

think as time continues to change their will always be new developments to learning.
