Quartiles For Grouped Data

1. The document provides information about quartiles and how to calculate them for grouped data. Quartiles divide a data set into four equal parts. 2. An example is shown to calculate the first (Q1), second (Q2), and third (Q3) quartiles for test score data from 50 students. Q1 is 28.21, Q2 is 34.39, and Q3 is 39.88. 3. A second example calculates the quartiles for age data from 70 contestants. Q1 is found to be 34.5.

Where:
QK = Quartile
LB = lower boundary of the QK class
N = total frequency
cfb = cumulative frequency of the class above the QK class
fQK = frequency of the QK class
k = nth quartile, k= 1,2, and 3 i = size of class interval
EXAMPLE:
1) Calculate the Q1, Median(Q2) and Q3 of test scores
of 50 students in Mathematics.

STEPS:
1. Construct the Lower Boundaries in third column and the less than
cumulative frequency in the fourth column.
2. Determine the quartile class and calculate the quartile using the
formula.
3. Interpret the results.
