The mechanical operability can be ascertained if the yoke stresses in the weakest
direction are low and the relative deflection is small (to ensure that shaft binding will not
occur).
The valve body and the valve actuator should not be braced or supported separately.
The valve body, the yoke and the valve actuator cannot impact or be impacted by nearby

The OBE operability criteria shall be checked by the Vendor by a simplified analysis
consisting to apply a 1g load at the center of gravity on the actuator in the yoke’s
weakest direction.
Where required, the SSE operability criteria shall be checked by the Vendor by a
simplified analysis consisting to apply 3g load at the center of gravity on the actuator in
the yoke’s weakest direction.
The SSE integrity criteria will be checked by the Vendor by a simplified analysis
consisting to apply 3g load for each component to keep the valve’s integrity.
If reinforcements are necessary, such reinforcement shall not put any limitation on
operability and maintenance of the valve.
The seismic calculation shall be submitted to the Contractor/Owner for approval.
