Why I Choose Computer Programming:

Studying at Georgian College gives me the opportunity to pursue an area of interest with my
choice of specialization and prepares me to work in many different areas of the field. I have
selected the Diploma Computer Programming program because there are certain criteria in
this program that after gathering a few credits, I can be able to choose my selected subjects
and my interest is in the programming field.

To learn the minute details of computer programs, I opted for this course. Learning this in a
Canadian college will develop my skills and knowledge on a world-class level. The main
topics covered by this program are a variety of programming languages, System design and
analysis, Mobile Application Development, Design and Maintenance of database systems,
1
and Mainframe Application Programming. The duration of this course is 2 academic years
involving 4 semesters. The main subjects which I will get to learn are mentioned below:

 Programming languages including Python, Java, and C#

 Introduction to UNIX/Linux and the internet
 Software Analysis and Design
 Project Planning and Management
 Web Programming for Apps and Services

The program learning outcomes were developed by MCU in consideration with employers
and educators to ensure the outcomes remain modernistic and up to date with industry wants.

Why Not Other Colleges:

While searching for computer programming and analysis course in Canada, I found some
colleges such as Humber College, Centennial College, Sheridan College, and George Brown
College but I found Georgian College which is very best for me. However, I found that the
courses which I wanted are available in it. Campus location in the city enables to save travel
time. It has an Orientation service, Athletics and recreation service, Counselling service,
medical services, Parking services, etc. Its Library offers collaborative and innovative
information literacy support to students regardless of location and their mode of study.
Georgian College’s Library provides learning spaces and resources which enhance the
learning experience. Its staff is well qualified and educated. Georgian College’s academic
support teams work closely with lecturers and tutors to monitor students’ academic
performance and provide assistance where necessary. The College has put together an
extensive academic support system across all campuses.

Why Canada and not other countries:

Among the English-speaking countries, I find Canada stands out in many factors. Its
education system and degrees are worldwide recognized as follows an updated curriculum.
The degree I am going to get from the country is having worldwide recognition. Canadian
education has an upper hand in the Asian Pacific region due to the economic fee structure and
currency conversion compared to USA and UK. Most importantly Canadian qualifications
are highly accepted by the Indian Government owing to the extraordinary bilateral
understanding between the two countries. Its education system provides practical exposure
and practical implication in the business field. Also, it is a safe country and it is one of the
wealthiest countries in the world. The standard of living and education is comparatively
higher than other nations in the world for which a good number of students are coming every
year. Canadian education helps students to develop a comprehensive personality through
theoretical and practical education. I have not only attended numerous education fairs but
even contacted many overseas education agents. I had kept my options open for different
countries to study abroad in, like the USA, New Zealand, UK, and Australia, but my options
have narrowed down to studying in Canada.
2
Compared to many other counties in the world, Canada is a very safe country to live in. The
crime rates are lower than for many other developed countries such as the USA and Britain.
This gives international students an opportunity to learn and travel safely. Not only that,
according to the OECD report, Canada ranked low among other developed countries for
reported physical assaults and muggings. It was also recently ranked as the seventh-happiest
country in the world, next to only Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. The UN’s Human
Development Report has declared Canada as the 3rd best country to live in around the world
and that too, an English-speaking country

Why Not Study in India?

I thought about different options available in India and abroad. Initially, I thought to continue
further study in India but as I studied in India till my intermediate, I know the drawbacks of
the Indian education system especially when it comes to a college education. The education
here is mainly based on theoretical knowledge rather than practical knowledge. Moreover, it
takes too long in updating the syllabus of college degrees. I did research about many famous
colleges in India but there are very few colleges providing specialization courses and I
realized that it’s too difficult to get admission into these few quality institutes at this time.
Also, there is a high level of aggressive competitiveness which is not completely good for the
student’s development and morale-boosting. I don’t want to invest my time and money in
education, which is not updated and practical as per market requirements and where
practically students are not trained to meet the demands of the employer. I prefer practical
education over outdated and theoretical curricula. This fact convinced me to get in-depth
knowledge in this particular field. Thus, I decided to undertake a study of information
technology abroad.

Career Opportunities in the Future:

After completion of my study, I would be able to utilize my knowledge, skills, and abilities at
a professional level. I will return back to my home country and settle down as I am very
dedicated to my family so no option to stay back in Canada. There is a growing demand for
computer programmers in India with a foreign degree of specialization. After coming back to
my home country, I can get an opportunity to work in several reputed companies. Such as
HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Accenture, and HData Systems. I am
sure that I will be able to recover my all expenses which I am going to do in Canada within 4
to 5 years after coming back to my home country. Recently Prime Minister of India launched
“Make in India” which is an Initiative of the government of India to encourage multinational
as well as domestic companies to manufacture their products in India, furthermore due to the
introduction of the new GST Act in July 2017, in India there will be plenty of opportunities.
This course will help me to grab an opportunity to get real workplace experience.

Reason to Return Home Country:

3
As I am very much attached to my parents it is my duty to take care of them so I will return
to India. After having enough experience, I would plan to work with trusted and reputed
software companies in India. I see a secured career and future goal for myself here in India. I
am sure of my skills and above it, I will be having an international degree which will help
me to gain a good position.

Family Background:

I am born and brought up in a well-established and higher middle-class family. I belong to a

family that has always emphasized the quality of education and never compromised on the
same. My family ensured that I grow up in an environment, where learning and growth
becomes an integral part of my life. My father Mr. Kalpeshkumar Patel is a retail manager at
Reliance Company. And My mother Mrs. Punitaben Patel is a housewife.
