What is a Davit?
A davit looks like a simple and small crane. In order to move whatever is hanging from the davit,
a hoist is needed in the hanging part (e.g. BMU-cradle). A davit system consists of two main parts:
the portable davit arm and the base plate or pedestal. The davit arm consists of the visual part
of the davit and the base is basically a metal plate mounted to the roof in which the davit arm is
attached to.
When the davits are used for facade access, one or two davits are used. One davit is enough if
there is a single suspension cradle hanging from it. However, if there is double suspension cradle
or a modular suspended platform, davits are needed for each end of the platform.
The maximum outreach required for façade access does not exceed 2.2 m
The building design has multiple levels, terraces, roof levels etc.
Vertical drops are relatively free and clear of obstructions
Platform length required does not exceed 5m
Building elevation is less than 100 m
Specifications
The standard Advancetech® Portable Davit consists of a vertical mast, horizontal boom and
diagonal support brace, which are all fabricated from high strength extruded aluminum/MS tube
and channel. All Advancetech® products design according to BS EN 1808-2015 standards.
The self-powered work platform (Cradle) can be raised above the building face being
serviced and transferred inboard for storage, rigging and access or egress from work
station.
The point of suspension exceeds 100 m above a safe surface.
Advancetech® roof/surface mounted davit sockets are designed to be chemical anchored to the
floor, once chemical anchored down the lifting davit simply slots into the socket, making it
possible to remove the lifting davit to another location if necessary.
Advancetech® safety eyebolt provides a fixed anchoring point, which can be either external
or internal on a building or structure. This will enable workers to attach a lanyard and safety
harness to protect themselves in the event of an accidental slip or fall. These are often utilized
for window cleaning and can also be used to carry out minor building repairs, maintenance and
inspections. High level Specialists can undertake any Eyebolt Installation
All Advancetech® eyebolts have a warning disc attached informing the end user of what they are
only to be used for. These will be either restraint, work positioning or fall arrest.
When combined the eyebolts must be able to take a load of 15Kn (1500Kg). Once installed the
anchor will have a calibrated test rig set up on it and the anchors tested to the relevant force.
All fall arrest eyebolts we install are tested in accordance with BS 7883:2005 The Code of Practice
for the design, selection, installation, use and maintenance of anchor devices conforming to BS
EN 795.
Re-certification: at least once every 12 months the anchor device should be examined in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, by a competent person authorized by the
manufacturer. If used for work positioning or rope access they should be inspected every six
months.
