Task # 1

Reflective practice

The meaning of reflective practice is to analyze critically your actions and


what you have been performing for period of time and keeping a check over
your own practice for the sake of further improvement and growth in your
teaching style by focusing on the theories and strategies of teaching.

Benefits of reflective practice

 You can stop and think about your practice (it allows you to review your
actions in your style of teaching).
 It opens up the path towards improvement.
 You can add information and enhance your style by reviewing relevant
theories.
 You can engage yourself in continuous learning and growth process.

Benefits of reflection in action strategy

 It allows you to realize your mistakes and assess your own self
 It leaves less room for being embarrassed or wrong actions
 It makes your mind attentive and encourages you to perform properly
and perfectly during the lecture

Benefits of reflection on action strategy

 One develops habit to critically assess his own mistakes


 Develop abilities to solve the problems
 One becomes flexible with his teaching style as he tries many new
strategies for growth of his knowledge and Improvement of teaching
style.

Models of reflective practice

 Kolb’s reflective cycle


 Gibb’s reflective cycle
 Reflection in and reflection on action
Strengths and weaknesses of different reflective cycles

Kolb

Advantages

 Allows awareness to individual teaching style of person which


accommodates every student in class no matter to which learning
preference they belong
 It allows learners to complete the learning cycle
 It allows learners to acknowledge it through a process from
understanding to utilizing this knowledge

Disadvantages

 The experimental learning model does not apply to all situation


 Provide only limited factors that influence learning
 Does not explain psychodynamic and social aspect of learning

Gibbs

Advantages

 It is easy to learn and use


 It relies on your own experiences that you have been taught by
practicing thins
 Give more accurate judgments

Disadvantages

 It is not that critical approach to perfectly assess things


 Questions provided are a little general for some type of context
 Does not keep in view the difference between the requirement of
learners and teaching practice

Reflection in and on action

 Increase your critical assess towards your own style


 Helps to improve strategies
 Provides flexibility in teaching
Disadvantages

 People find it difficult to devote time


 Its research and objective use if different from each other
 Teachers finds difficulty in building new methods

Judgments

All three models of reflection are useful to some extent but I find the reflection
in and on action the most useful as it helps the teacher to prepare and deliver
a proper processed lecture and it helps the teacher to overcome his
weaknesses properly.
