Reflecting journals

These are the formal or informal record keeping of experiences used by teachers
during lesson

Journals may contain information about

 Lesson delivery
 Student achievement
 Classroom management
 Content questions
 Or notes about curriculum

You can critically analyze your way of teaching write it down in journal , observe
your mistakes , question your practice and draw conclusion.

Incident analysis

The incident analysis is something we call your timely observation ,what you have
delivered through your lecture and how much your students have understood by
your current method .

For example : you can use sticky notes for the classroom check and balance and to
remind the lecture you may ask your students to keep sticky notes with
highlighted points and stick them to the notice board and after lesson delivery
you must go through them , this will help you acknowledge your mistakes in
lesson delivery.
Self-assessment

It is an important tool for reflection because it enables you to be aware of your


pros and cons very well

Critics friends group

Critics friends groups are a group of people who make you realize your
weaknesses during lesson delivery or points which are missed somewhere.

For example:

 heads of class
 Your colleagues

Importance of data collected through different means

Benefits

 It helps the teacher to develop his style of teaching


 It makes you realize your strengths and weaknesses and the areas to be
worked on become clear
 It helps you making handy information about the learning styles of your
students
 It helps you making and maintaining record
 It takes you towards betterment of class

Drawbacks

 Data collection is a time taking process


 It is a bit difficult to manage all the data at a place

Forward looking reflective teaching

It is a method that involves not only teaching phase but also the pre teaching
phase like collecting data maintain sequence of data presenting a well prepared
lecture

It comprises of the following phases


 Topic selection
 Self-knowledge assessment
 Data collection
 Preparation (that could be a lesson plan )
 Lecture delivery and
 Reflection on the delivered lesson

It provides teachers with the following checklist of questions:

1. How well did I plan my lesson?


2. Did I design good tasks and practices for my students?
3. Did I set practical assignments to my learners?
4. How did I treat errors made by my students?
5. Did I deliver personalized and accurate feedback on each error?
6. How important was my learners’ employability to me?
7. If I were to teach the same lesson, what would I do the same?
8. If I were to teach the same lesson, what would I do differently?
