MineSight: Exploration to Production
MineSight software is a comprehensive mine planning platform offering integrated solutions for
exploration, modeling, design, scheduling and production. It uses raw data — from drillholes,
blastholes, underground samples and other sources — to derive 2D and 3D models essential to
mine design and planning. Below the ground or at the surface, from precious metals to base
metals, for coal, oil sands and industrial minerals, MineSight software tackles geomodeling mining
applications to improve productivity at every stage of a mine’s life.
GEOMETRIES
Use digitized data to define geologic information in section or plan; define topography contours;
and define structural information, such as mine designs, important in the evaluation of an ore
body. Virtually every phase of a project, from drillholes to production scheduling, either uses or
derives geometric data. MineSight software lets you create, manipulate, triangulate and view
any geometric data as 2D or 3D elements.
DRILLHOLES
Manage drillhole, blasthole and other
sample data in a Microsoft SQL Server
database. The data can be validated,
manipulated and reported; and it is
fully integrated with other MineSight
products for coding, spearing, com-
positing, interpolation, statistics and
display. Some of the types of data
you can store are drillhole collar infor-
mation (location, length and more),
down-hole survey data (orientation),
assays, lithology, geology, geotechni-
cal data and quality parameters for
coal.
COMPOSITING
Calculate composites by several methods, including bench, fixed length, honoring geology and
economic factors. These composites are fully integrated with other MineSight products for statistics
and geostatistics, interpolation and display.

qualities and measurements.
MODELING
Build and manage 3D block, stratigraphic and surface models to define your deposit. Populate
your models through: geometries (polygons, solids or surfaces) coded into the model; calculations
on model items; text files loaded into the model; and interpolation through techniques such as in-
verse distance weighting, kriging or polygonal assignment. As you design and evaluate your mine
project, you can update your model, summarize resources and reserves, calculate and report
statistics, display in plots or view in 2D and 3D.

documentation of all your procedures, data man-
agement and analysis, and specific quality control measures. QC consists of the steps to deter-
mine the validity of specific sampling and analytical procedures. QAQC procedures must be dis-
closed for reporting under mineral reserves reporting standards such as NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC,
IMMM, SEC, etc.
QAQC is a utility in MineSight Torque that enables you to manage and evaluate analytical sample
data from the time it is received from a laboratory to the time it is uploaded to Torque.
Common Terms
MINESIGHT QAQC GENERAL TERMS
Sample: A representative fraction of the material to be analyzed in order to determine the nature
and the composition of that material. Samples can be core, chip, grab, stope, etc. They are
primarily collected to establish the value of ore reserve. Each sample must be given a unique
Sample ID.
Analysis methods: Chemical analysis methods that are conducted at assay laboratories to deter-
mine the proportion of elements in a sample (e.g., Atomic Absorption, Fire Assays).
Lab methods: Analysis methods specifically conducted at each assay laboratory, appropriately
used for elements of interest. Lab methods include additional details such as ranking, units, lower
detection limit and upper limit.
Shipment: A group of samples sent to a lab for analysis. A Shipment comes with a list of Samples
that provide the order in which the Samples have to be analyzed.
Certificate: An official document, with a unique certificate reference number, sent by the assay
laboratory with a list of the measurements. The certificates are auditable references for all sample
results.

Lab duplicate: Samples that are split into subsamples at the lab and used to provide a second
analysis for a given field sample. The lab duplicates are used to analyze the precision of the
laboratory measurements.
Standard: A sample that is a Certified Reference Material with a known grade and low standard
deviation, which could be bought from an external agency. Standards are used to measure the
accuracy of the analysis methods as well as contamination.
Blank: A sample with known zero grade. It is collected in the field or bought from an external
agency. A blank is used to detect contamination during sampling, transport and assay laboratory
analysis methods.
Undefined Sample: A sample for which sample type has not yet been assigned. Undefined sam-
ples cannot be used in analyses or uploaded to Torque.

date, shipment and comments. Certificates are
listed by certificate status, indicating the current
stage of the approval process. There are six different statuses that can be applied to the Cer-
tificates:
Received: All the certificates that are created in or imported into MineSight QAQC will initially be
listed as this status.
Pending Approval: Used to indicate that the certificate has been validated and accepted by one
or more user and is awaiting approval from a qualified person with appropriate permissions (e.g.,
a senior geologist).
Approved: Indicates that the certificate is approved and may be uploaded to Torque. Certificates
that are not in the Approved status cannot be uploaded to Torque.
Completed: Indicates no further changes are expected on the certificate.
Re-run Requested: A rerun of the original certificate has been requested from the lab.
No Workflow: Used to remove a certificate from the workflow, for example when a certificate is
problematic in some way but you don’t want to delete it.
For each certificate, the samples, their properties and the measurements are displayed in detail.
On the Home tab, you will have the option to filter your certificates based on selected statuses
and labs.

You can also import existing Certificates in csv file format using Certificate Importer. When import-
ing from a file, you have the option to import all the files that exists in the same folder if all the
Certificates have the same format. Data Source options let you choose your input file and select a
Column Header Region which is necessary for accurate mapping of the fields for Certificate Info,
Column header and Sample Data. Multiple rows can be selected as headers and colors will ap-
pear on the dialog identifying these three different data sections. Primary Certificate Info dialog
allows you to add Certificate information such as Lab, Certificate Type, Date, Certificate Name
and Sample Date. Within Sample Field Mapping dialog, you can map QAQC Target Fields and
Target Lab Methods to the fields in the csv file. The setup last used in Certificate Importer will be
remembered next time for a Certificate with the same format and Column Header Region.
The Certificate Importer allows you to check the raw data and preview the import before
importing into your MineSight QAQC Project.

Import, Manage and Analyze Certificates with Torque QAQC
It’s not uncommon for certificates to contain data that is invalid, non-numeric or missing. The Rules
dialog allows you to define import rules for handling special values in the certificate. In addition,
rules can be created to deal with multiple occurrences of the same sample name.
Rules allow you to manipulate your input file to ensure you are importing the most accurate data.
The setup last used in Certificate Importer will be remembered next time for a certificate with the same
format and Column Header Region. For Name and Date in Primary Certificate Info, the importer will set
the values by looking at the exact location in the certificate region of previously imported certificates
when importing multiple files.

QAQC Analysis
Charts and reports allow you to analyze the sam-
ple measurements in the certificates from the labs. LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Analysis mode looks similar to the Main Grid in a
Certificates View. The selected certificates are Create and analyze charts in Analysis
listed in the Details Grid; the samples selected from Mode in MineSight QAQC.
these certificates are listed based on the filters ap-
plied on the data in MineSight QAQC. These filters
are by period, certificate status, laboratory, lab method and attribute. The selected certificates
and samples are dynamically updated in the list when any changes are made to the filters.
Period Filter: Defines the time period of data to display in the chart (based on Certificate date).
Certificate Status Filter: Filters the certificates by their status. For example, you may want to filter out
certificates with Complete status if they have been previously analyzed.
Laboratory Filter: Select one or more labs to further filter the certificate selection.
Lab Methods: Select one or more lab methods to define which measurements will be plotted in the
chart.
Attribute: Select a single attribute to define which measurements to plot in the chart. When creating a
standard chart, you must also select a Standard in the sub-menu.
There are four different major chart types, and different enhancements and styling options can be
applied to these:
FIELD DUPLICATES
Displays assay results for sample pairs as a scatterplot where field sample values are plotted on
the horizontal axis and field duplicate values are on the vertical axis. This type of chart has an
additional filter: Match Lab Methods, which will display only the sample pairs that were analyzed
using the same lab method. In the Enhancements & Style tab, Equality Line overlays a line on the
chart for y = x, which represents original and duplicate values that are identical. Reduced Major
Axis (RMA) Line overlays a line, indicating the strength of the linear relationship of the two data
sets based on RMA regression. Cutoff Grade Lines overlays two lines on the chart, representing the
cutoff grade between ore and waste to identify problematic samples from the chart.
LAB DUPLICATES
Displays assay results for sample pairs as a scatterplot where field sample values are plotted on the
horizontal axis and lab duplicate values are on the vertical axis. The lab duplicates chart has the
same Enhancement & Style options as the field duplicates chart.
QAQC Analysis | 17
c 2015 Mintec Inc. and Leica Geosystems AG
BLANKS
Displays assay results for blank Samples plotted in chronological order for the specified time period.
In the Enhancements & Style tab, Detection Limit overlays a horizontal line on the chart represent-
ing the lower limit of detection for the Lab Method and Attribute you are analyzing. Detection
Limit x10 will overlay a horizontal line ten times the threshold value specified.
STANDARDS
Displays assay results for Standards (similar to Blanks). In the Enhancements & Style tab, Certified
Grade overlays a horizontal line on the chart showing the certified grade of the selected Standard.
+/- 1 Std Dev and +/- 2 Std Dev shades the region on the chart ranging from the selected standard
deviation above and below the certified grade based on the Confidence value entered in Project
Setup. Moving Window Average overlays a simple moving average line which can help smooth
out short-term fluctuations and highlight long-term trends.
To analyze your data more closely, once you create charts in MineSight QAQC, you can zoom in
to the charts if your Samples are clustered at values. Also the Certificate will be highlighted from
the list when a Sample is clicked on in the chart. Additionally, each chart has three tabs that
provide further information about the Samples used and statistics. The Information tab will provide
you details about the filters that are used to create that chart such as the Sample Attribute, Date
Range, Lab, Lab Method, Number of Samples, and Number of Certificates. In the Statistics tab,
summary statistics will be provided for the Samples that are used to generate that chart. Analysis
tab exists for Duplicates and Standards chart where for Duplicates, the results of the Regression
analysis is provided. For Standards, an Analytical Accuracy Test is applied to the Samples which
yields a pass or fail result based on the difference between the mean grade and certified grade
versus the 2 certified standard deviations.
You can export your chart with the enhancements and the details provided in the tabs below using
the Quick Report button from the chart. You can also create Reports over a given period of time
to analyze the historical performance of the labs you are using. By specifying the start date, period
duration, and number of periods, you can easily generate a multi-page daily, weekly, monthly, or
annual QAQC report.
