I. Introduction

The article states that it is very important to assess one's personal


entrepreneurial competencies (PECs) in order to know the strengths and
weaknesses of the entrepreneur. In that manner, the entrepreneur can
design a plan to compensate for his weaknesses and develop his strength in
order to deliver the excellency that was expected of him.

PECs of CSS (Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies of Computer


System Servicing ) The Entrepreneurship has brought great success to
some, but it's not a career path for all. But with the proper training and
skills understanding, it will give a great significance in any field of
profession.

What is PECs?

Personal entrepreneurial competencies (PEC's) is a set of qualities,


which help to outline the attitude and behav- iour of entrepreneurs (Alusen,
2016). In other words, personal characteristics are traits that make people
more or less capable of entrepreneurship (Driessen, Zwart, 2006).

What are Entrepreneurial Competencies?

Entrepreneurial competencies refer to the ability to develop, organize


and manage a business venture along with any of its risks. It includes key
characteristics that should be possessed by a person in order to successfully
run a new venture. Among those characteristics are social, managerial and
networking competences.

Important characteristics / traits / attributes of a good entrepreneur:

1. Hardworking: A successful entrepreneurs are hard workers, and they


also enjoy what they are doing. They are dedicated, driven, and focused.
They are goal oriented and have a strong attention to detail. They are
typically highly organized and have seemingly boundless energy.

2. Confident: A successful entrepreneur never asks the question or keeps


doubts in their mind about if they can succeed or if they are even worthy
of success. They are normally confident enough that their knowledge and
their know-how will help them make their business idea a success. And
they radiate this confidence in everything that they do for the business.

3. Disciplined: Successful entrepreneurs always focus their energy on


making the business work, and for eliminating the distractions or
obstacles to their goals. They make strategies help them to aim the goals
they have while they outline the plan to achieve the outcome.

4. Committed: Good entrepreneurs assume full responsibility over their
business. They give full commitment and solid dedication to make the
business successful.

5. Ability to accept change: Nothing is permanent but change. Change


occurs frequently. When you own a business, you should cope with and
thrive on changes. Capitalize on positive changes to make your business
grow.

6. Creative: One facet of creativity is being able to make connections


between seemingly unrelated events or situations. Entrepreneurs often
come up with solutions which are the synthesis of other items. They will
repurpose products to market them to new industries.

7. Has the initiative: An entrepreneur takes the initiative. You must put
yourself in a position where you are responsible for the failure or success
of your business.

8. Profit-oriented: An entrepreneur enters the world of business to


generate profit or additional income. The business shall become your
bread and butter. Therefore, you must see to it that the business can
generate income.

Listed below are the important skills of a successful entrepreneur:

Excellent planner: Planning involves strategic thinking and goal setting to


achieve objectives by carefully maximizing all the available resources. A good
entrepreneur develops and follows the steps in the plans diligently to realize
goals. A good entrepreneur knows that planning is an effective skill only
when combined with action.

Possesses people skills: This is a very important skill needed to be


successful in any kind of business. People skills refer to effective and
efficient communication and establishing good relationship to the people

working in and out of your business. In day-to-day business transactions,
you need to deal with people. A well-developed interpersonal skill can make
a huge difference between success and failure of the business.

Sound decision maker: Successful entrepreneurs can think quickly and to


make wise decisions towards a pre-determined set of objectives. No one can
deny that the ability to make wise decisions is an important skill that an
entrepreneur should possess. Sound decisions should be based on given
facts and information and lead towards the pre-determined objectives.

Strengthening your Identified PECs

Here are your guides on how to strengthen your own PECs.

1. React positively to criticisms and open to feedback.

2. Always demonstrate positive attitude to achieve a desired goal.

3. Always project strong and well-balanced behavior.

4. Always exercise the assertive style in your work environment.

5. Avoid being too passive and too aggressive.

6. Do not let anyone worsen your business life.

7. Prioritize your business goal rather than personal goal in order to become
a successful entrepreneur.

8. Acquire specific skills for creating and maintaining a conducive work


environment.

9. Be responsible in everything you do in your business.


10. Always observe business ethics in putting up a business.

COMPARE AND ALIGN ONE'S PECS WITH PEC'S OF SUCCESSFUL

ENTREPRENEUR

It is very vital that neophyte entrepreneur will benchmark his/her


personal entrepreneurial skills to successful one because the traits of a
successful entrepreneur is proven to have a guarantee for success.
An entrepreneur should use this for him to identify the traits that he/she
do not possess and to overcome all of the hurdles of business.

A successful entrepreneur pec's is a reliable to  benchmark  because it
is based on real life situation and it was proven effective to use. Also if the
neophyte entrepreneur will become aware that their are traits that is not
present on his/her  personal he/she must train himself/herself to develop
those traits to develop those traits and if the entrepreneur will follow those
traits, it will surely lead to success in overcoming the hurdles or obstacles in
business.

Here are the Personal Entrepreneurial competencies that the new


entrepreneurs must be aware:
1. Achievement Cluster

 Opportunity seeking
 Obstacles
 Commitment to work contract
 Risk taking
 Demand for efficiency and quality

2. Planning cluster

 Goal setting
 Information seeking
 Sytematic planning and monitoring

3. Power Cluster

 Persuasion and networking


 Self confidence

Above are the examples of personal entrepreneurial competencies and the


new entrepreneur will compare it to the successful entrepreneur if those
traits is present on his Personal entrepreneurial competencies.
