I. PROJECT INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project background and Aims

Annex 35 is a locality within the municipality of Parañaque City, Metro

Manila. Plastics are thrown everywhere in our community even though our
Homeowner’s Association officers installed lots of garbage bins or trash bins
in every corner of the subdivision. Trash thrown everywhere not only affects
the health of many residents because of its awful smell but also clogs canals.
People are becoming disrespectful to the environment, and they lack
discipline.

1.2 Project Scope

BASURA mo, Kapalit ay BIGAS is a community project where people

collect all the recyclable trash such as plastic bottles, plastic bags, and plastic
containers in their household in exchange of rice or bigas in Filipino. This
project will be held every 1st Saturday and Sunday of the month and will be
held at Homeowner’s association building with the help of the authorities.
After the said schedule will be over, all collected trash in the Homeowners’
office will be collected by our partner charity which is Planeta.Cares.

1.3 Purpose of Proposal

The purpose of this proposal is to establish a project that enclose the

general explanation of my project in attempting to address, an outline and its
relevance to the problem. The proposed method in making this project is
included as well as the development of this community project plan
addressing the community problem, potential challenges and how will it be
solved.

II. SITUATION OVERVIEW

2.1 Problem Description

Annex 35 subdivision is exposed to a high risk in their quality of living

because of improper disposal of plastic wastes. The environment is not safe
for their health specially to the children and senior citizens. The proposed
project will be a key opportunity to the community in reducing the waste and
preventing impact of decease and clogging of stereos or canals. Trash is
thrown everywhere even though the Homeowners’ Association already
installed trash bins in every corner of the subdivision. Plastic bottles and
plastic bags are the wastes which people most people in our community
consume. Sadly, they don’t dispose it properly and doesn’t even execute
recycling. Because of that we create a project not only encourages people to
recycle but also be mindful of proper disposal of plastic wastes. Not only they
helped the environment, but they also get a reward because of their deeds.

2.2 Applicable Approach and Strategies

The need to adapt to the increased number of wastes suggest that

there is an opportunity to investigate a program that not only helps the
community cleaner but will also encourage people to participate. During the
pandemic, lots of activities comes to life such as Community Pantry. BASURA
mo, Kapalit at ay BIGAS is a project where it combines recycling and a pantry
in some areas. Lots of non-government organization already executes this
project and they will be the one who will guide us to success. It does not only
help the community become cleaner but also encourages us because of the
reward that we can receive.

2.3 Contingency of the Plan

One of the main characteristics of social change is its unpredictable.

Thus, aiming for change in Annex 35, Don Bosco Parañaque is like most
projects, it may face some challenges that can be a risk of stopping or delaying
the project. To minimize the disturbance of the project, a plan should be
developed. Table below shows advantages of the project, its risk, and the
response we can do to resolve it.

III. PROBLEM SOLUTION

3.1 Implementing Steps

For us to successfully execute the proposed project we need to follow

certain steps. This step will be our guide from the beginning of the said project
until we finish it. Below are the said steps:

1. Gather all the trash that we have in our household or everywhere seen
around the community.
2. Clean and separate the recyclable trash; accordingly.
3. Put the recyclables to your designated bags.
4. Bring your recyclable trash to the homeowner’s association where it will
be weighted.
5. Receive your reward according to the weight of your trash collected.
6. Observe the changes in the community.
7. Receive feedback from the residents.

Below shows what are the plastics than can be exchange to a kilo gram of rice.

3.2 In order to Achieve

For us to achieve the outcome we like; we have to consider many things

such as:

1. The equipment that we need like weighing scale for us to measure how
much garbage does a resident collected.
2. The location: we need to confirm the location where we can execute the
project where in our case will be at the Homeowners’ Association Building.
3. The supply of our reward: We have need to have the reward for us to
motivate people in participating to our project.
4. Our partner charity, where ours is Planeta. Cares. We must have
connection to them so that they can help us to our project.
5. Lastly, the guidance from Homeowners’ Officers.

3.3 Partner

For us to successfully execute the project we need to have connections.

Those connections will help us achieve our mission and give us the results that
will be beneficial to our community. Organization like Planeta. Cares is an
example of this group.

Planeta. Cares is a non-governmental organization that helps the

environment to be clean. They collect trash in every household and give them
a reward. The trash that they collected will be converted into eco-blocks that
will be used for creating houses to those who are affected by floods or any
natural disaster that happened in our country.

4.2 Project Evaluation

To measure the effectiveness of the project in Annex 35, Don Bosco

Parañaque and determines the level of its achievement we must have a
project evaluation. This project evaluation will take form into accounts about
the outcomes and impacts of BASURA mo, Kapalit ay BIGAS.

4.3 Project Outcomes

Before starting the project implementation, the community is expected

to look a lot cleaner than before. The project must be following the
implemented steps for it to be successful. The more plastic wastes collected
the more successful the project is.

4.4 Project Impact

It was mentioned that the goal of this project is to reduce plastic wastes
problem in Annex 35, Don Bosco Parañaque. This project is expected to lessen
the impacts of wastes in nature and prevent future problems such as flooding.
It is expected that by implementing this project, people will cooperate to
make the community a better place to live in. If those steps mentioned above
are implemented happened and implemented well, then the community will
be much cleaner, and the results will show.

12 | Page
V. CONCLUSION

Our project aims to reduce plastic wastes and encourage people to recycle
because lots of trash are thrown everywhere improperly. With the help of the
authorities and our project partner, the result that we have been wishing for will be
possible. The residents will also be anticipated to join since the more people who
helps the beautiful the outcome will become. This project not only reduce the
wastes in our community and encourages people to recycle but also create bonds
or connections that will make the subdivision a place where people work and
connects with each other.

The project was developed with the help of the Homeowners’ Association and
our partner. The schedule of the project has been decided to ensure the
effectiveness and efficiency of this project to keep moving.

VII. REFLECTION

The people can live in any environment, but the environment cannot live if
the people are disrespectful and undisciplined. It becomes natural for us to throw
our garbage anywhere, as if it has become a habit. Improper disposal is being
uncontrollable. We need to think of something that will solve this.

As I was making this project, I learned that discipline and cooperation is very
important. With this two the project will not be successful. This project helps the
environment and connects people to each other. Not only it reduces the garbage in
our community but also makes everyone happy. I am more than happy if these
projects will be well executed during the following years. I helped not just make the
community cleaner but makes the people happy since the thing that they always
complain about is little by little being solved.

These projects make a difference not just in the environment but also in
everyone’s mind. They learned how important recycling is and will continue it until
they were able to. Next time, I will look for an additional partner that will exchange
not just rice but lots of varieties of product so that the people will be more
encouraged to participate. As I look back at the objective I have, there are many
things happened. The things that I listed were accomplished and goes smoothly. I
will apply the things I learned in this project to my daily life. I will never give up until
I see the outcome that I envision.

Overall, I feel that the project of mine will make the community grow. The
people will see the importance of recycling and proper disposal and they will teach
it again in generation that will come. Hopefully this project goes on and never stop

and will be adapt by the neighboring subdivision so that more people will be
encourage in doing this project.

VIII. CELEBRATE

My community project celebration includes the team who make the project
possible and the people who participated because if not for them this project will
not be successful. We celebrate our accomplishments by taking picture us a group
and share of what we learned from the project. We then share the things that we
want to improve in our project so that the next month it will be held it will flow
smoother than the last time. I shared my experiences while doing this project. I
shared that I am thankful that the community participated to my community
project. I learned that being one is important because it makes everything easier
and makes the community better. Without them, nothing will happen. The
community itself is the reason why I taught of this project, and they are also the
one will help me complete and execute every step of this project.
