 INTRODUCTION

In today’s world where we are engaged in the rat race of the world.
Digging the natural resource from Earth and dumping waste in it
without taking care of it. Resulting the overall destruction of
environment in which we are living and other living beings in the
world.

Let’s concede two options of living in a) A environment where there

is a constant growth of worlds technology to the greatest extent b) A
same growing environment with daily activities performed by the
individuals to make environment clean and reduce the PLOUTION

If it is option B you choose then ask yourself what is stopping you

from doing something for nature every day or maybe just plant a tree
once a week.

As we know a clean and green environment will have a lot benefits on

health and development of human race, we came up this summer to
make it little better starting from our surroundings

Thus, an initiative is taken by us with the help of NGO to provide

healthy environment for our society through a community
development project.

Through this project we were able to improve the environment of our

surroundings and make a little effort to promote the information about
benefits of a clean and pollution free environment. Keeping the
prevailing situation of COVID-19 in mind
WHAT DOES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
PROJECT BASICALLY MEANS?
Community Development is a work done by a person or group of
people that benefits others. It is often done near the area where you
live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your work. One
does not get paid to perform community service, but volunteer one’s
time. Community Development

Projects can help many different groups of people like children,

senior citizens, and people with disabilities, even animals and the
environment. Community service can help any group of people in
need: children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities, English
language learners, and more. It can also help animals, such as those at
a shelter, and it can be used to improve places, such as a local park,
historic building, or scenic area as well. Community service is often
organized through a local group, such as a place of worship, school,
or non-profit organization.
Effective community development should be:
• A long-term endeavor.
• Well-planned.
• Inclusive and equitable.
• Holistic and integrated into the bigger picture.
• Initiated and supported by community members.
• Of benefit to the community.

Community development seeks to improve quality of life. Effective

community development results in mutual benefit and shared
responsibility among community members. Such development
recognizes:

1. The connection between social, cultural, environmental and

economic matters.
2. The diversity of interests within a community.
 INTRODUCTION TO RED RIGHT HAND

RED RIGHT HAND is a Non-Governmental Organization which has

come into existence on October 09, 2006. This NGO is basically
based in Phagwara, PUNJAB. It works for humanity with the hope of
making this world a better place. Held by the common residents of
Phagwara. Local organization holding its operations in Phagwara
only.

WHY RED RIGHT HAND?

REASON –My reason to join this NGO was the events and work
done by them. I came across their social media profile, where I found
that they are giving free bowls for pouring water for street dogs and
birds in hot summer. This really motivated me as they are doing
something not only for humans but our environment as well. Thus, I
decided to join them in this journey to create a healthy environment
for everyone.
 OBJECTIVE

The main objective for my Community Development Project is based

on one of the very essential things in our life, which is environment in
which we live. Without good environment it is hard for humans to
stay healthy in their daily course of life. A healthy body is a healthy
state of mind and we cannot forget one of the sayings ‘Health is
Wealth which is indeed hard to attain in polluted environment

This project mainly focuses on one of the most common issues that is
various type of pollutions prevailing in environment and step to
overcome them up to some extent. The motive of the project is to
develop a habit and spread awareness about measures to diminish
pollution. To do something to improve the environment conditions
and make people aware how to stay safe and healthy.

Some of the key objectives are –

• Healthy and Clean Environment

• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
• A green environment
• Creating helplines
• Spreading Awareness
 STEPS TAKEN TO ACHIEVE THE
OBJECTIVES

1. Tree Plantation

Trees play an important role in cleaning our environment from

harmful air pollutants. Thus, Trees Plantation is one of the key
activities to make our environment clean and healthy.

Planting the trees not only help the environment but also provides us
with the fruits, which provides nutrients to stay fit and healthy. This
can be eaten by anyone, without paying a single penny.
We staying in different areas were asked to plant a plant for 5 days in
our nearby area. The plants planted were of different types, as it will
provide a good source of nutrients, it also contributes in healthy life
of a human being. This was a very fun activity planting a tree. After
plantation I decided to visit this place regularly and take care of
plants. I came to feel the true importance of the trees to our
environment.
 2. Clean the surroundings

As the pollution is only caused by human activities like emission of

gasses, dumping of waste, deforestation and many other small
activities like smoking and emission of CFCs from refrigerators and
ACs

So here we have started an activity to clean environment by starting it

from our own surroundings as it is primarily and solely our
responsibility to clean the damage we did to Earth

The main thing we did is just to clear the dump lying around the
streets, grounds, public parks, lakes or rivers. It took a lot time to
clean and realize how beautiful things look without this waste lying
around only if we would have just spent few seconds to throw it in
right place.
 3. Spreading Awareness of Pollution management activities to
friends, family and neighborhood

After realizing how little only effort is needed to make an

environment clean and taking a step to reduce pollution. We wanted
to involve people around us in these activities to so we started calling,
texting, and face-timing our family and friends to tell them about the
good initiative we are being part of.

We also initiated a chain called roof chain. We communicate the ways

to reduce the pollution by communication roof to roof as it is not safe
to meet in person due to prevailing situation of covid. It was effective
and interesting way of communicating the knowledge fast and as you
know this INDIAN way of communication can never be non-effective

Through this chain we were able to aware all our surrounding very
efficiently and very effectively. To acknowledge ourselves and ones
surrounding us,about various ways to control pollution and have a
healthy environment and its benefits and the power of positivity in the
morning coming from the a clean green environment and fresh air to
breath.

4. THE 3R’s: - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We cannot stop waste production entirely, but everyone can make a

significant contribution. Think before you bin! It saves energy and
natural resources, helps to reduce pollution and reduces the need for
landfi

The 'Reduce', 'Reuse' and 'Recycle' elements are referred to as the '3
R's'
 • Reducing - Try to reduce the amount of waste you produce, as
this is the best way to help the environment! If you cannot avoid
producing the waste
• . Reusing - Think of ways you could reuse something, like
shredding paper for your hamster rather than buying bedding or
saving glass jars for storage. If you cannot reuse something
• ..Recycling (and composting) this enables the materials you
throw away to be used again by making them into new products.

INNOVATIVENESS AND UNIQUENESS OF

THE PROJECT UNDERTAKEN
These projects were taken to aware people about their prevailing
environment conditions andtake care of mother nature and try their
best to not to pollute the environment

Pollution has become a very common yet serious issue in today’s

world. It has been there for a long time even before human evolution
such as volcanic eruption, wildfire which lead to various
photochemical reactions in the atmosphere. The current concern is
that it is rising day by day due to various resources of pollutants. And,
one of the pollutants is human and human-created machines. It is to
say that pollution is damaging the mother earth severely and we,
humans, should play our part to prevent it from happening.

Upon learning about the harmful effects of pollution, it is everyone’s

responsibility to take some steps towards prevention. We should be
aware of all the possible preventive measures to help reduce every
kind of pollution such as to curb air pollution, we should avoid
bursting crackers during any festival or using public transport or
carpool to reduce air pollution or cutting down the usage loudspeaker
and public honking would help in noise pollution. We should always
be aware of this situation and take measures accordingly. It’s us who
should be cautious in the beginning and make everyone else
surrounding us conscious as well. We should take eco-friendly steps
like planting more trees, reduce the usage of plastic, use more
sustainable products in the household etc. while talking about the
pollution of the entire world, you should always remember that every
small step will lead to a bigger impact one day definitely.

EFFECTIVENESS OF PROJECT

As far as the Effectiveness of the project is concerned, I would like to

pinpoint few points which can explain the effectiveness of the project

➢ The project solely based on the reducing the pollution in the

environment and improvement of the surroundings.

➢ All of the activities and steps done in this project effects the
improvement of the nature, air, water, and soil

➢ Activities like Reduce, Reuse, Recycle will help us reduce the

waste generation in the society of everything is evaluated on these
parameters
➢ Tree plantation may not be too effective right now, but it will be
great source in near future and will help the society for many years.

➢ Any idea is always lead by one to other so spreading awareness

was one of the best idea and initiative to control pollution

The above points define the effectiveness of this project in short term
as well as long term. It was a great initiative and everyone should do
some of these tasks and help the society for its betterment

CONCLUSION

Through this project we made a small initiative to give priority to our

society and a small contribute to the people who live in it by
improving the health status up to best possible way we could.

Planting tree are the best way to control the global warming, reduce
air pollution and hold soil from erosion and the earth’s temperature
even if every person plant a single tree on monthly basis the earth will
be lot greener and will reduce the global warming or probably
eliminate it in long term. Also protection of our loved ones is our duty
so we should alert them but, not provide false news

Thus, through this project we made a step forward to help those in

need, to serve humanity and the society. Helping those in need is not
an easy task, lots of NGO’s has been set up to help others but they
need man power and volunteers to help others in need. Through the
Community Development Project, they are getting help by us. So we
should contribute something to our society or community that will
make our community a better place.
